5 Seconds of Summer pick their top five pop-punk bands

5 Seconds of Summer have revealed their favourite five pop-punk bands.

The label is often associated with the Australians and they opened up to Billboard about their top acts from the genre.

Guitarist Michael Clifford opened by picking Sum 41, All Time Low and Blink-182.

He then chose Green Day - if they fit into the genre - and Goldfinger.

The band worked with members of Sum 41, All Time Low and Goldfinger on their latest record 'Sounds Good Feels Good'.

Drummer Ashton Irwin meanwhile recently told Alt Press about the limitations people place on the band - and he referred to tags such as boyband and pop-punk.

The Aussie said: "'Boyband' and 'pop-punk' have the same boundaries. I hate when people call us pop-punk sometimes, because we can do more than that. People shouldn’t limit themselves. That’s the issue with this world: putting barriers on what you’re capable of. You’re capable of f*cking anything. That sounds like a super-Bono thing to say, but you can f*cking do it.

"If we can claw our asses out of nowhere in Sydney and become the band that we’re today, you can do anything. I do not give a damn about [the] limitations [anyone] puts on this band.

"I look at this band and I see three other dudes who are just as committed and ambitious as I am and we can do whatever the f*ck we want with our music. ‘That’s not pop-punk.’ ‘You’re a boy band'. I could not give a f*ck. If we lived our life worrying about what other people thought, we wouldn’t be doing this."
