5 Seconds of Summer star Calum Hood has explained why he has cut his hair short.

The bassist and singer disappointed a number of fans recently by chopping off his locks.

It even started a trending topic on Twitter - but Hood said it's so he can keep cool.

When asked by 99.3 FLZ about the reasons behind the chop, the Australian said:

"Yeah, I just shaved it.

"It's very hot in Australia, so I was just like 'I don't want to deal with this sh*t'."

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile are now returning home to Australia for Christmas.

They have recently been promoting their second album 'Sounds Good Feels Good'.
