5SOS's Ashton shares sentimental throwback photo

Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds Of Summer have come a long way in a short space of time and one of the boys shared a photograph of the first time the group made the front page of their local newspaper.

The band's drummer, Ashton Irwin, shared a photograph of the Hawkesbury Courier, dated March 14, 2013, and confessed that it was "the first time we were on the cover of the newspaper back home."

We found the article online and it quotes Irwin as admitting that the attention his band was beginning to receive back then was exciting: ‘We’re just four guys from the western suburbs in Sydney." Irwin also told the paper that he and his 5SOS bandmates put their hearts and souls into everything they do, adding: "We’re very self-motivated. We had to ‘take it to the next level’ like five times in the last year."

The article reads: "Former Richmond High student and 5SOS drummer Ashton Irwin joined the band just over a year ago, playing a few dozen gigs at the Annandale Hotel in front of 20 fans."

One year on, Ashton and his three bandmates Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Luke Hemmings have scored the gig of touring with One Direction on their ‘Take Me Home’ tour. This year 5SOS will perform to 1.3 million people. Mr Irwin told Fairfax Media that he didn’t understand why this was happening to them."
