5SOS didn't have a Plan B: 'Why give yourself another option?'

Aussie pop-punk quartet 5 Seconds Of Summer have confessed that they didn't really have alternate career plans outside of their band and just put all of their time and energy into making their collective dream come true.

During a recent interview with Candy, the boys opened up about what they might have been doing if 5SOS never existed. Member Michael Clifford got a little existential and metaphorical with his response: "I'd be this tree. This would symbolise my job. I would sit under and be content with waiting, just seeing what's going to happen to me."

Calum Hood, who plays bass in the band, admitted that music was really the only thing he imagined himself doing: "It's hard to say until we joined this band when we were 15 years old. I kind of put all my eggs in one box. Probably something to do with music still. I hope so."

Drummer Ashton Irwin added that when something's your passion, you don't give yourself a Plan B and instead just fight for what you want:

"That's the thing. You don't give yourself another option. Why give yourself another option if the only thing you want to do is right there. You just go for it. I think I didn't even have a plan B. I was just like, 'Let's go for this and see what happens.' We could fail but we'd still be a band, regardless. We'd be playing to two people and we'd still probably be a band. It's just things happen in a really crazy way."
