5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin has explained why the band are spending so much time in Los Angeles.

The group originally hail from Australia, but they have been based in the US state during breaks in their Sounds Live Feels Live world tour.

One fan took umbrage to Irwin on Twitter after he said he was missing his home country, saying:

"Shut the f*ck up. No one told you to spend all your time in la, move there and barely go back to australia."

Irwin then replied: "It's best for the band! Gotta work on new songs whenever we get the chance in between the 100 date tour this year."

The group are busy creating new material for the follow-up to their 2015 sophomore record 'Sounds Good Feels Good'.
