“World News Tonight with David Muir” finished as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.348 million), Adults 25-54 (1.258 million) and Adults 18-49 (820,000), during the week of Sept. 5, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.243 million, 1.126 million and 754,000, respectively) by 1.105 million Total Viewers, by 132,000 Adults 25-54 and by 66,000 Adults 18-49.

“World News Tonight” has won the last 197 of 198 weeks in Total Viewers and 126 of the last 128 in Adults 25-54.

“World News Tonight” was the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.348 million) on all of television (excluding sports).

David Muir had an exclusive interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, Sept. 5, and anchored special editions of “World News Tonight” from the region Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 7. Muir also anchored the program from London on Friday, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.161 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.886 million) by 1.275 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.948 million) by 3.213 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+274,000 – 1.475 million vs. 1.201 million) and Adults 18-49 (+167,000 – 1.011 million vs. 844,000). In fact, “World News Tonight” is posting its largest Adults 25-54 lead in 26 years — since the 1995-1996 season.

In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (836,000 and 581,000, respectively) by 639,000 Adults 25-54 and by 430,000 Adults 18-49.

For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.348 million, 1.258 million and 820,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (4.451 million, 713,000 and 442,000, respectively) by 2.897 Total Viewers, by 545,000 Adults 25-54 and by 378,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Monday (9/5/22), all three programs were coded as specials due to the Labor Day holiday. The telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday).
