Akon: limited taste is “bad for business”

American R&B star Akon believes that people who limit their taste in music are hurting the music business and its artists.

The 38-year-old also revealed that he is pleased that more artists are introducing new sounds to the charts and encourages them to step outside their comfort zones in terms of taste and influence.

“There are people who only listen to urban music and nothing outside of that. They don’t listen to reggae, rock, dance or house music. To me that’s bad for the music business and artists,” he said to Vibe magazine.

He added: “Is Euro pop hurting R&B? No... I think it’s great that people want to try new things. Why limit yourself? The world is bigger than just America.”
