Alexandra Burke has opened up about the secret cancer scare she experienced after discovering a lump in her breast.

The ‘X Factor’ winner was quick to admit herself to hospital after discovering the lump, and was relieved to be diagnosed with a benign cyst.

Burke said that the experience was an eye opener: “I got completely freaked out. I was in the shower just checking myself and that’s when I realised you need to go to a doctor and start going twice a year.”

The experience motivated the star to do her bit to raise money and awareness for breast cancer by joining the nine-day celebrity trek through Peru.
