Toronto, ON. CANADA – In response to the past and present social injustices, music producer DJ and songwriter Alonso Mendez and singer/songwriter Christie Nelson have teamed up to release RISE UP.
Finding inspiration during the peak of the protests following the murder of George Floyd, in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Christie Nelson and Alonso Mendez felt the need to channel the collective energy of the current social landscape into a dance platform. RISE UP is an original song, with a message about unity, solidarity, equality, and love and encourages people to stand against social injustice and against systemic racism.
“As artists, it is important for us to challenge listeners to educate themselves, encourage society to stand for social justice and let their collective voices be heard. Be it through peaceful protests, by signing petitions, or by demanding equality, this project encourages our nations to Rise Up for their rights,” said Christie Nelson.
Political in nature, RISE UP is a song that echoes the voice of millions trying to change systemic racism and it reflects and reminds us that although the problem has existed for many generations, it is in our hands to change it. The heartfelt soulful lyrics and melody are served over a track that will get people united and uplifted on the dance floor. A song with meaning and feeling. A song that could not come at a better time, as the United States of America heads into an especially important election.
The music video is a reminder that Unity, Equality, Solidarity can conquer injustice. It is possible. Rise up! Black Lives Matter. Vote.
Available Oct. 5th on all major platforms.
