Ryosuke Nishida, the current IBF champion, had an amateur record of 50 fights with 37 wins and 13 losses before making his professional debut in October 2019. In just his third pro bout, he scored an eight-round decision win over former world title challenger Shohei Omori (Japan). In his next fight, he defeated former WBC World Flyweight Champion Daigo Higa (Japan) to capture the WBO Asia-Pacific Bantamweight title. After three successful defenses, he challenged IBF World Bantamweight Champion Emmanuel Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) in May of last year. Nishida scored a knockdown with a left body shot in the fourth round and went on to win by unanimous decision, claiming a world title in just his ninth fight. In his first title defense last December, he stopped Anuchai Donsua (Thailand) with a seventh-round KO. A 170 cm tall southpaw with a 173 cm reach, Nishida is a boxer who bases his style on outboxing but can also hold his own at close range. Tenshin Nasukawa's World Title Prelude
In February of this year, after breaking into the world rankings, Nasukawa faced former WBO World Bantamweight Champion Jason Moloney (Australia). Although he found himself in danger at times—such as when he was caught with a right straight and staggered—he otherwise controlled the bout with smart in-and-out movement and steady point scoring. He earned a unanimous decision victory over ten rounds with scores of 97–93, 97–93, and 98–92. Victor Santillan is a southpaw with a record of 14 wins (five KOs) and one loss in 15 fights. After competing as an amateur, he turned professional seven years ago and racked up 13 straight victories. In June 2023, he traveled to Japan to face Takuma Ishida (Japan) in the WBA World Bantamweight title eliminator. He fought all 12 rounds but suffered a split decision loss, which remains the only defeat of his professional career. After bouncing back with a 10-round decision win later in June, he is now set to face Nasukawa. Santillan is a boxer-fighter type, known for his high guard stance, frequent use of feints, and subtle upper body movement. Following this win, Nasukawa is now ranked within the top four of all four major sanctioning bodies. After securing his sixth straight professional win (two KOs), Nasukawa came face-to-face in the ring with WBO Champion Yoshiki Takei (Japan), and the two shook hands, vowing to face each other in the near future. With Takei scheduled to make his first title defense in May and Nasukawa needing to clear his upcoming prelude bout, the road to a title shot is still uncertain. However, Japan’s dominance in holding all four bantamweight world titles remains unchanged. Interestingly, all four champions, including WBA titleholder Seiya Tsutsumi (Japan), a switch-hitter who predominantly fights from the southpaw stance, are left-handed. This fact played a key role in the decision to match Nasukawa with a southpaw opponent for his upcoming fight. Tomoya Tsuboi to Face World No. 12 in His Second Professional Fight
His next opponent, Ban Thao Tran (Vietnam), is a right-handed boxer-fighter who turned professional in October 2015 and currently holds a record of 18 wins (10 KOs) and one loss in 19 fights. Tran has fought not only in his home country of Vietnam but also in South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, and Cambodia. In May 2024, he captured the WBO Global Bantamweight title and is currently ranked No. 12 in the WBO World Bantamweight rankings. Tran has an unorthodox style, sometimes stepping in with a one-two combination or attacking from the right followed by the left. While his style can be rough at times, his right hand is considered particularly dangerous. For Tsuboi, this fight presents another high hurdle following his debut, but a victory would likely earn him a spot among the world’s top 15. Although the fight carries considerable risk, the reward for winning would be significant. Prime Video Boxing 13 Overview
