CALIFORNIA, Nov. 11, 2020 – Apple Music today announced UK singer-songwriter beabadoobee as the latest addition to its Up Next programme, Apple Music's monthly artist initiative geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising talent.

The Philippines-born, London-raised artist's deeply confessional, ultra-nostalgic indie pop sound has birthed earnest and relatable music for an anxious Gen Z fanbase and beyond. In just a short timespan, beabadoobee—real name Beatrice Laus— penned 2017's grainy "Coffee" (which went viral and landed her a record deal) and just released her raw-edged debut, Fake It Flowers, to critical acclaim.

Across Apple Music, beabadoobee has been playlisted since early November 2018 and was featured across major tentpole playlists like New Music Daily, Untitled, Mellow Days, The A-List: New Artists, Breaking Alternative, The Late Night Menu, INDIY, Beats of the Week, Today's Acoustic and more. Flowers has broken into the top 10 alternative albums chart in over 45 countries and become a major moment in a burgeoning revival around alt rock.

"I'm so extremely grateful to be part of Apple's Up Next programme," says bebadoobee. "I've loved watching all the artists they've picked, especially over the last few months while quarantining, so getting the chance to join them is unreal. I wrote my album Fake It Flowers for fifteen-year-old me and those that felt and feel like I did. I want to empower people so that they know that they can do whatever they want and not to let anyone tell them that they can't. Apple's Up Next is helping me bring that message to even more people, so it's really f——g cool."

"Beabadoobee is a breath of fresh air," says Apple Music 1 host Matt Wilkinson. "It speaks volumes that just three years ago she was still a complete unknown, making demos in her bedroom on a scratchy old acoustic guitar. Now, as she becomes our newest Up Next artist at Apple Music, she is redefining what it means to be indie in 2020. Her songs manage to be both intimate and anthemic - as anyone who's ever seen her live will tell you. Personally, I love how upfront she is, I love how she connects with her fanbase, and I love the mad talent she has for capturing the most beautiful melodies around. This is only the start of her story, and from here thing's are only gonna get bigger!!!"

In her moving Up Next film out today, beabadoobee takes viewers inside that childhood bedroom to reveal how music healed her after the turbulence of her teenage years—which included self-harm and being kicked out of school—and how she wants young women to feel empowered by her sound: "I want it to feel like a warm blanket," she says.

Additional Up Next campaign moments include a Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance on November 18 and a FaceTime interview with Apple Music 1's Matt Wilkinson, also airing today, where she opens up about the realities of wearing your heart on your sleeve, going to the Fashion Awards with The 1975's Matty Healy, how she's coping with her sudden rise.
