Ariana Grande has been confirmed as this year's recipient of the Breakthrough Artist gong at the Music Biz Awards.

The US starlet will pick up the award at the ceremony on May 8 in Las Vegas.

The 20-year-old will be honoured by members of the Music Business Association and she said in a statement:

"Music has always been my first love, so receiving this Award is a true honour for me. I've been pursuing a career as a singer since I was eight, and it's a great feeling to know that the industry has embraced me with open arms."

Previous winners of the award have included Nicki Minaj, John Legend and Carrie Underwood.

Grande meanwhile released her debut album 'Yours Truly' in 2013.
