Ariana Grande turned to Kabbalah after her brother was rejected by the Catholic Church

'Problem' hitmaker Ariana Grande has opened up about her decision to turn to Kabbalah and revealed that it came about after her brother Frankie, who is openly gay, was shunned by the Catholic Church because of his sexuality.

Speaking to Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper, the beauty admitted that hearing her brother be told that he wasn't loved by God because he is gay was the moment she knew she could no longer uphold the beliefs of that particular expression of the Christian faith:

"When my brother was told that God didn't love him I was like, 'OK, that's not cool.' They were building a Kabbalah centre in Florida so we both checked it out and really had a connection with it. Since then, my life has unfolded in a really beautiful way, and I think that it has a lot to do with the tools I've learned through Kabbalah, I really do."

She went onto talk a little about the 'tools' she picked up from learning about Kabbalah, adding that "you have to watch your intentions, make sure you're not giving in to your ego. You have to numb your reactive state. You have the power to change your reality".

"You have to take a second and breathe and reassess how you want to approach or react to a situation, or approach an obstacle or deal with a negative person in your space. That takes a lot of self-control and practice and, I guess, willpower."
