Ariana Grande Scores Fifth No. 1 on Billboard 200

Ariana Grande returns to the top of the charts with her new album Positions debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

This means that she has achieved her fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart after moving 174,000 equivalent album units.

Of that total, 42,000 came from traditional album sales, 3,000 from TEA units, and 142,000 consisted of SEA units, which equals 173.54 million on-demand streams. The 173.54 million streams netted by Positions is the second-highest total this year for a title in a genre other than R&B, hip-hop, or Latin in its debut week. Taylor Swift's Folklore amassed 289.85 million on-demand streams in its first week.

Lead single, 'positions,' is the first song to simultaneously debut atop both Billboard Global Charts. Positions' streaming start of 173.54 million clicks is the second-largest streaming week for a non-R&B/hip-hop or Latin album this year.

Grande's sixth album and its title track also claimed No. 1 on this week’s Official Singles and Albums Charts in the U.K. on Friday (Nov. 6), becoming her fourth consecutive No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart, and racking up 27,500 chart sales, including 27.6 million track streams.

Meanwhile, the global superstar has admitted that she is unlikely to hit the road to tour the album until 2022.

She said: “I don’t think people are going to be touring until 2022. I don’t see it as a possibility. I wouldn’t feel safe, and I don’t want to put my fans in danger.

“I just got off of tour last year. I kind of liked doing ‘sweetener’ and ‘thank u, next’ and then touring both together. Maybe after the next one happens, which will not be soon, and the pandemic sorts itself out.”
