Austin Mahone on rapping: 'I hope I don't sound too white'

Teen heartthrob Austin Mahone recently unveiled a new single called 'U' and revealed that his rapping on the track might have come as a surprise to some of his fans.

Speaking to MTV about the track, which dropped on Valentine's Day (February 14), he explained that he wanted to rap on it, but was concerned about how it might sound:

"Hopefully I didn't sound too white. So 'U' was actually the first song that I recorded when I moved to Miami about two years ago, so it's kind of old but I've always loved the song. It's always been one of my favorites and I just thought it would be cool to release it as a Valentine's Day gift to my fans."

Back in December, Mahone opened up about the impending release of his debut album and teased that it's taking so long to finish because he wants to put together the perfect tracklist:

"My new album, I'm still putting it together, you know the reason why it's taking so long is because I just want to make [sure], you know, every song on there is perfect. I want my first album to just be crazy, like, 'Aw man this kid is like, this came out of nowhere, he's got an insane album,' so, I mean, I've worked with so many talented producers and so I just want to pick the right songs for it."
