Daytona Lights

New Single ‘Midnight Beach’

Released March 25th 2013

“They are true originals in a massively oversubscribed field of guitar bands, and that’s a fine and rare thing.” – John Robb (Louder Than War)

“There’s a sense of space and musicality that references early 80s guitar bands like Aztec Camera, and in particular the vocal parts are so well executed it’s almost too good, Beach Boys standard (I kid you not).” – Clash Music (Review of Houses of Parliament show)

Following a year that took in a much acclaimed performance at Rob da Bank’s Bestival, and saw the boys perform everywhere from Hard Rock Calling to Nick Mason (of Pink Floyd’s) Ferrari Hangar and the Houses of Parliament; Daytona Lights wrapped up 2012 supporting Madness before heading back into the studio to work on their forthcoming EP.

A mixture of jagged guitars and crystal clear harmonies, with inspiration drawn from the melting pot of New York disco culture, 'Midnight Beach' is an infectious earworm that taps into a style and feeling that has eluded many British bands of recent years. The track, set for release on March 25th, is named after a greyhound - lead singer Dan Lawrence was working for his dad in a bookies at the time of writing - while lyrically the song focuses on confronting problems and living beyond your means.

Drawing passing nods to Aztec Camera, Dexys Midnight Runners and The Beach Boys, whilst bringing their unique modern twist to the 80s melody, Daytona Lights craft spacious grooves and lyrics that last. The boys have garnered airplay and live sessions on Radio 1, Radio 2, XFM and BBC6 Music, and also featured in Blackberry and Olympus advertisement campaigns.

They worked closely with legendary producer, Steve Levine (The Beach Boys, The Clash, Culture Club), on their debut record This Modern Landscape; for which they won Best Album at the Download Music Awards 2012, and received support from the likes of John Kennedy, Huw Stephens and Boy George.
