On 17th June the charming Japanese four-piece Taffy return with the follow up to last year’s acclaimed debut ‘Caramel Sunset’;  their second album ‘Lixiviate’ will be released on Club AC30.

Known for their intoxicating, well-crafted bubblegum pop, shoegaze and psych combo, these tracks illustrate the band’s knack for writing diverse, catchy songs akin to Shonen Knife, The Apples In Stereo and Kenickie.

Not shy of experimenting with their sound, ‘Lixiviate’ offers up their signature sound with heavy guitar riffs and playful vocals as heard on ‘Sweet Violet’, ‘Tumbling’ and ‘Snowberry’. The remorseful and progressively heavy Cure cover ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ is reminiscent of early Teenage Fanclub.

Elsewhere, on ‘Stewert And A Yellow Bicycle’ and the down-tempo ‘When Is Forever’, Iris’ vocals explore new territories, sounding similar to Echobelly’s Sonya on ‘Insomniac’, while distantly echoing Debbie Harry.

Encompassing their live spirit ‘Maple Art’ hits back with heavier punches of punk riffs that are shot through with noise leading to the finale ‘No Endings but only the Beginnings’.

Known for their upbeat and energetic live shows, last year saw their first UK tour. Taffy have already headlined Madame JoJo’s ‘White Heat’ and are fast becoming a favourite on the indie scene. Other performances include a headline slot at the Play Time festival in Mongolia and a plethora of sell-out gigs in Tokyo.

Taffy are Iris on vocals and guitar, Koichin on bass, Asano on lead guitar and Ken on drums.
