Scores of fans hospitalised at Avicii gig in Boston due to alcohol and drugs

A number of Avicii fans were taken to hospital during a gig in Boston due to the effects of alcohol and drugs.

The Boston Globe reports that 36 people were transported to hospital as the Swedish DJ performed at the TD Garden on Wednesday (June 25).

50 people were "treated or evaluated at the scene", with most patients suffering from drug and alcohol problems.

Authorities confirmed that most of the cases were "minor", with no fatalities occurring.

Mike Santostefano, who was at the gig, said: "You couldn’t breathe if you were on the floor. It was the best and worst time ever.

"[There were] a lot of people who couldn’t handle themselves. People who don’t do drugs come here and do drugs."

Avicii himself took to Twitter to comment on the health worries, saying:

"Just hearing the awful news abt tonight. Its a terrible thing, I rly hope everyone is ok! My thoughts go to those affected & their families."
