Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko to retell story of epic 2017 fight in BBC One documentary
Anthony Joshua reunites with Wladimir Klitschko to retell the story of their epic 2017 fight in BBC One documentary
Back on BBC One in a very special documentary, Anthony Joshua once again invites cameras into his world - this time as he reunites with Wladimir Klitschko for the first time since their 2017 fight of epic drama. When Britain’s Joshua fought Klitschko in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley it turned out to be the sporting event of the year.
First Joshua knocked the former champion down, then he too was punched to the canvas in a fight that was more dramatic than a Rocky movie. Looking destined for defeat, Joshua then produced an astonishing comeback to beat the Ukrainian in an epic 11th round.
Now the two fighters will meet for the first time since that dramatic evening last April. And in a brilliant and candid encounter they will describe what really happened in the ring that night.
Alison Kirkham, Controller, Factual Commissioning, says: "Having followed Anthony Joshua's journey to heavy weight champion from his very early fights it is exciting to be able to bring this privileged access to our audiences. It was unforgettable fight, and now we get to hear the inside story from both boxers."
Featuring extended highlights of the fight for the first time on free-to-air television, Joshua v Klitschko: Return to Wembley will provide fans with a fascinating insight into the minds of the two men. It will also look ahead to Joshua’s potential defences of his heavyweight crown against fellow Britain Tyson Fury and the American champion Deontay Wilder.
It will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 10.45pm, Weds 9 May.
Joshua v Klitschko: Return to Wembley is a Goalhanger Films production for the BBC. It was commissioned by Alison Kirkham, Controller, Factual Commissioning.
