When people, passions and postcodes unite, great things can happen to help children and young people across Northern Ireland.

That’s the message from this year’s BBC Children In Need appeal which takes place on Friday 15 November.

Launching this year’s appeal locally were TV presenters Holly Hamilton and Stephen Clements with some help from Pudsey Bear.

The pair will be fronting local contributions to the appeal on BBC One Northern Ireland.

Holly Hamilton says: “I absolutely love BBC Children In Need and am thrilled to be part of it this year alongside Stephen. Please, please do what you can to help us raise lots of money for this year’s appeal, as your donations really do make a huge difference to the lives of many children and young people right here in Northern Ireland.”

Stephen Clements says: “It’s going to be great working with Holly again, after we spent a fabulous week up in Portrush at the Open over the summer. And I am looking forward to meeting some of the many busy who have been busy fundraising helping to raise loads of money for this year’s BBC Children In Need.”

Throughout the week leading up to the big night, BBC Radio Ulster and Foyle programmes will be looking at local projects which have benefited from funding from the Appeal, and chatting with fundraisers across Northern Ireland. Each day from Monday to Friday, Hugo Duncan will be offering listeners the chance to bid to co-present with him in studio on his popular radio show.

The week culminates in a special BBC Children In Need concert with Hugo and guests, including Michael English, Jimmy Buckley and Declan Nerney, live from Studio A, Blackstaff House, Belfast for two hours of great country music and craic from 1-3pm.

Later in the day, Holly and Stephen will be live from W5 in Belfast for this year’s local television output.
One of the local highlights of the night will see 129 young singers from schools across Northern Ireland, who were all semi-finalists in the BBC Northern Ireland School Choir Of The Year earlier this year, joining thousands of others from throughout the UK to form a choir taking part in a nationwide live performance of the Cyndi Lauper classic True Colours. Joining in the chorus will be pupils from Macosquin Primary School (Coleraine); Ballyholme Primary School, Bangor; Ebrington Primary (Londonderry), and St Clare’s Abbey Primary, Newry.

Last year’s ‘on the night’ national total was £50.5m and in Northern Ireland it was £946,739.

Locally the appeal currently funds 186 projects in Northern Ireland to the value of £10.4m funded by Children in Need.
In 2018/19 BBC Children in Need helped change the lives of over 51,000 children and young people in Northern Ireland.
