The BBC has announced today that Tom Ilube and Ian Hargreaves have had their term extended as Non-Executive Directors on the BBC’s Board until April 2023. Dr Ashley Steel has had her appointment as Board Member for England extended until December 2020 by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Tom Ilube and Ian Hargreaves' terms were due to end on 2 April 2020 following a three year appointment at the inception of the new Board on April 3 2017. The Nominations Committee proposed that they be re-appointed and the whole Board approved the reappointments at its February meeting for a period of a further three years until 2 April 2023.

Dr Ashley Steel’s appointment as Board Member for England was due to end on 2 April 2020; this appointment is made by the UK Government and has been extended until 1 December 2020. Dr Steel has accepted this extension to support the BBC during this time.

Tom Ilube CBE is a technology entrepreneur and educational philanthropist. He is currently CEO of cyber security firm Crossword Cybersecurity plc and has previously founded several start up technology businesses. His 30-year career in the UK technology sector includes roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Goldman Sachs and the London Stock Exchange. In his education work, Tom is Chair of the African Science Academy, the continent’s first all-girls science and maths school, and is an Advisory Fellow of St Anne's College, University of Oxford.

Ian Hargreaves CBE has spent most of his career in the news industry where his roles included Deputy Editor of the Financial Times, Editor of the Independent, Editor of the New Statesman and Director of BBC News and Current Affairs. He was a founding board member of Ofcom. He is now Professor Emeritus in the Cardiff University School of Journalism, Media and Culture.

Dr Ashley Steel is a Non-Executive Director on the boards of National Express plc and GoCo plc. She also served on the Boards of the Civil Aviation Authority, law firm Ince&Co and was a founding member of the global advisory board for Out Leadership, a New York based organisation helping Chairmen and CEOs on LGBT business issues. Previously, Ashley was Vice Chairman at professional services firm, KPMG.
