Even though Eurovision 2020 isn’t able to take place, tell us how you’ll be celebrating on your BBC show(s)?
As gutted as I am that we won’t be celebrating Eurovision in Rotterdam this year I’m very excited at the plans to celebrate here. BBC One and BBC Two will be having a fantastic party. I’ll be hosting Eurovision A-Z on BBC Two and it’s a great look back (Sat 16 May, 10pm). On Rylan On Saturday on BBC Radio 2 (Sat 16 May, 3-6pm) I’ll be doing a Eurovision themed Desert Ryland Discs and I’ll also be fronting Eurovision Kings And Queens Of Pop on Radio 2 (Sat 16 May, 10pm-midnight) and BBC Sounds.
What are your favourite songs from previous years?
There really are some amazing tracks to come from the show. A few stand outs from me, Loreen - Euphoria, Dana International - Diva, and Immani - Where Are You.
What are your other favourite Eurovision memories?
Every year having a Eurovision Party, but I’m lucky enough to be part of the presenting team so the last couple of years in Portugal and Tel Aviv have been amazing
Which entries would you say would have been the big contenders for this year?
Ah, the year that never was! There really is some amazing songs from this year’s line-up but Iceland’s entry is so great.
What do you think of James Newman’s entry to represent the United Kingdom this year? Would we have been in with a chance?
I think the song is a great track. I get asked every year what are our chances are and I never know what to say. It all depends on the performance, the staging and the impact the song gives during the week of the final. It’s all about the promo!
For people tuning into the BBC’s Eurovision programming on Saturday 16th May, what are your tips for having a virtual Eurovision party at home?
Grab your favourite beverage and get lost in the madness!
