Sam Warburton returns to BBC’s 2021 Six Nations line-up as full coverage details are announced

One of the most highly anticipated events in the international rugby calendar, the Six Nations, returns with Wales v Ireland kicking off the BBC’s coverage on Sunday 7 February

Although the crowds may not be in the stadiums this year, the passion and fierce competition will surely be felt from afar as the Nations battle it out to take home the much coveted silverware.

TV

Showing live TV coverage of all of Wales, Scotland and France home games on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the Six Nations Championship begins on the BBC with Wales v Ireland live from the Principality stadium in Cardiff.

Other unmissable matches on the BBC include Wales v England, plus two games on Super Saturday with Scotland v Italy and France v Wales rounding off the tournament on the BBC.

Gabby Logan and John Inverdale will present BBC Sport’s TV coverage. Joining them will be some of the biggest rugby union stars who will be on hand to offer their expert analysis, including newcomer Benjamin Kayser. Former international hooker, Benjamin won 37 France caps and spent three seasons with Leicester during his playing career.

Benjamin will join Sam Warburton, who returns to the team this year, as well as England’s World Cup winning captain Martin Johnson, Jamie Heaslip, John Barclay, Jeremy Guscott, Jonathan Davies, Chris Paterson, Thomas Castaignede, Andy Nicol and Brian Moore.

TV commentary will be provided by Eddie Butler, Andrew Cotter and Sara Orchard. Sonja McLaughlan and Lee McKenzie will also be pitch side at every game, bringing viewers all of the action as it happens on and off the field.

There will be a one hour Six Nations Rugby Special on BBC Two on 14 February for fans to catch up on all the latest highlights from the Championship, presented by John Inverdale.



Radio

Every home nation’s game will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 5 Live or 5 Live Sports Extra throughout the competition and all commentaries will be available on BBC Sounds.

Sonja McLaughlan and Mark Chapman will present the coverage for BBC Radio 5 Live, joined by Chris Jones and Sara Orchard, alongside pundits Matt Dawson, Paul Grayson, Andy Nicol, Benjamin Kayser, James Hook, Natasha Hunt, Tommy Bowe and Jamie Heaslip.

Rugby fans can subscribe to the Rugby Union Weekly Podcast which will bring all the latest twists and turns of the Six Nations to listeners. Join hosts Ugo Monye, Danny Care, Chris Ashton and Chris Jones as they interview special guests throughout the tournament. Each new episode is available every Tuesday on BBC Sounds.

Matt Dawson’s Rugby Show returns on 5 Live and BBC Sounds as he welcomes regular guests including Ugo Monye, Johnnie Beattie, James Hook, Danny Care and Benjamin Kayser.

There will be live coverage of Scotland games on BBC Radio Scotland for listeners to enjoy.



BBC Northern Ireland

BBC Sport Northern Ireland will have live commentary of all of Ireland’s games in the Six Nations on radio. Gavin Andrews will introduce the coverage on BBC Radio Ulster starting with the first round of matches on Sunday 7 February as Ireland take on Wales at the Principality Stadium. Jim Neilly will be on commentary alongside ex-Ireland outhalf Tony Ward. This season former Ulster, Ireland and British and Irish Lions hooker, Rory Best, will be writing a weekly column on the BBC Sport NI website giving his insight on the matches and his opinion on Ireland’s performances throughout the Six Nations.



BBC Wales

Live commentary of all of Wales’ matches during the Six Nations will be on both BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru, as well as live coverage of Wales’ games against Ireland, Scotland, England and France on BBC One Wales. S4C will have live television coverage of every Wales game on Clwb Rygbi Rhyngwladol.

In the build up to each tournament weekend, BBC Radio Wales presents Jiffy’s Six Nations Breakfast with Jonathan Davies. Jonathan will be joined by former Wales International Philippa Tuttiett and a podcast will be available to stream on BBC Sounds afterwards.

On BBC One Wales, Gabby Logan and Gareth Thomas return with a new series of Six Nations Sin Bin, aimed to enthuse, excite and build up the hype ahead of each Six Nations weekend.

Throughout the tournament, Scrum V will present their Six Nations specials on BBC Two Wales on after each game on Sunday evenings. Presented by Catrin Heledd, guests include Scott Quinnell, former Wales international Nathan Brew and Philippa Tuttiett and the programmes will feature highlights and analysis of all the weekend’s action. Regular Scrum V Podcasts will be available to stream at BBC Sounds throughout the tournament and Eddie Butler looks forward to the new campaign in Eddie Butler’s Six Nations on BBC One Wales, 2 February.
