BBC Breakfast wins Scoop of the Year at the Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards 2021

BBC Breakfast has won Scoop of the Year at the Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards 2021 for the show’s coverage of Free School Meals

In a series of exclusive interviews, BBC Breakfast followed Marcus Rashford MBE in his quest to end child food poverty.

Throughout 2020, Sally Nugent interviewed Marcus as he urged the Government to extend Free School Meals to children in England over the summer months outside of term time and BBC Breakfast were also the first to hear his reaction to the news he would be receiving an MBE award for his work.

Sally Nugent, BBC Breakfast presenter said: “It was a real privilege to follow Marcus’ quest to end child food poverty in England last year. To be recognised with the RTS Television Journalism award for Scoop of the Year is such an honour and myself and the BBC Breakfast team are thrilled to take home the prestigious award.”

BBC Breakfast was also the first breakfast news programme to ever be nominated in the Daily News Programme of the Year category at the RTS Television Journalism Awards 2021.
