In a toy-themed episode, generations collide as actor John Thomson and daughter Olivia compete against newsreader Reeta Chakrabarti and her daughter Roxy.

Get ready for a Bargain Hunt BBC Children in Need extravaganza! On Friday 19th November, presenter Natasha Raskin Sharp will host a battle between two well- known faces who’ve teamed up with their daughters to take part in the nation’s favourite antiques game show.

On the red team are actor and comedian John Thomson and daughter Olivia. Their opponents in blue are BBC Newsreader Reeta Chakrabarti and daughter Roxy. Each team has one hour and £300 to spend at a huge antiques and toy fair in Malvern, Worcestershire, guided by experts Tim Weeks and Thomas Forrester.

They must choose three items, two of which must be toys, with the aim of raising the most money for Pudsey. But will each family agree on what to buy or will generations clash and throw their toys out of the pram?

BBC Newsreader Reeta Chakrabarti said: ‘I love a bargain, and I’m quite competitive, so taking part in Bargain Hunt for BBC Children in Need was a perfect challenge! Roxy and I had a very happy hour hunting for treasures and we learned a lot.’

After the shopping comes the moment of truth, as we find out which celebrity team picked the best toys and antiques. In an action-packed charity auction at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire, auctioneer Charles Hanson wields his gavel to sell the teams’ items. Other special lots and one-off experiences were also sold in aid of BBC Children in Need, including show tickets, behind the scenes TV tours and a ‘Strictly’ scoring paddle signed by the professional dancers.

John Thomson said: “It was great fun being on the TV classic “Bargain Hunt” but more importantly raising money and awareness for charities supported by BBC Children in Need all at the same time. “

As part of the special programme, John Thomson also visited The Joshua Tree charity in Northwich, Cheshire which receives funding from BBC Children in Need to help support families affected by childhood cancers. During his visit John said, “I’m absolutely inspired by these children and their families who are supported here, for as long as it’s needed. These places rely on your generous donations. You can help places like this thrive and families and children alike can reap the benefits’

Presenter Natasha Raskin Sharp said ‘To be part of a programme that shines a light on the wonderful work that BBC Children in Need supports is a real privilege. And what a pleasure it was to meet Reeta and John, their daughters were a credit to them’.

In 2020, Bargain Hunt raised more than £138,000 for BBC Children in Need and they’re hoping that viewers will help them raise even more this year. Full details can also be found on the Bargain Hunt website and Twitter page @BBCBargainHunt.

This special Bargain Hunt episode will air on Friday 19th November 2021 at 12.15pm on BBC One, ahead of the BBC Children in Need Appeal that evening, with all proceeds going to BBC Children in Need.
