The BBC has today announced its full coverage for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The momentous milestone will be marked across television, radio, BBC News, iPlayer and Sounds with content from across the UK.

Kirsty Young returns to the BBC for the first time since 2018 to anchor a full weekend of programming for the Jubilee, joined by presenters including Huw Edwards, Clare Balding, AJ Odudu and Roman Kemp, as well as Anita Rani.

The biggest names from across the BBC will also host a variety of programmes celebrating The Queen’s extraordinary 70-year reign, including documentary The Crown Jewels presented by Clive Myrie and The Queens Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking with Mary Berry.

Hosts Kirsty Young and Roman Kemp will lead live coverage of the Platinum Party at the Palace, on BBC One, iPlayer and across the entire BBC network, bringing together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform for a night of musical tributes to celebrate. Reporters across the UK will cover this historic celebration, including Jermaine Jenas at Buckingham Palace, Gethin Jones in Wales, Carol Kirkwood in Scotland, and Holly Hamilton in Northern Ireland.

BBC One and iPlayer will lead the broadcast of Platinum Jubilee content showing special programmes such as Platinum Jubilee: Trooping the Colour and Platinum Beacons: Lighting Up The Jubilee to warm up the weekend, followed by the main event - the Platinum Party At The Palace.

Special programming across BBC networks will start in early May right through to Sunday 5 June, with significant live events broadcast across the bank holiday weekend.

“In celebration of Her Majesty’s seventy years of service the BBC will bring the people of the UK together with something for everyone to commemorate this historic anniversary culminating on the extended bank holiday weekend.”

Kirsty Young says: “I’m delighted to be back on the BBC for such an historic, unique, and happy event. It’s going to be quite a weekend and our coverage will bring viewers everywhere a front row seat at the celebrations. I can’t wait!”

Clive Myrie says: “It's been a really powerful journey of discovery for me finding out more about the amazing crown jewels, their importance to the monarchy and their role in the complex history of our islands.”

There will also be special programmes throughout the Jubilee weekend including The Queens Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking, Bargain Hunt and The Repair Shop specials, and a Songs of Praise Jubilee special.

On BBC Network Radio, audiences will be transported back in time on BBC Radio 2 to listen to news archives and music from 1952, while on BBC Radio 3, there will be a week-long special from German composer Handel who held a crucial relationship with the British monarchy. BBC Asian Network will have an all-female takeover on Thursday 2 June, with Queens of Throwback Mixes presented by Harpz Kaur, Noreen Khan, DJ Kizzi, DJ Manara & DJ Nish.

BBC News will be offering comprehensive coverage of the build up to Jubilee weekend, the official celebrations in London and how communities across the UK and the Commonwealth are marking the Platinum Jubilee, to domestic and international audiences.

BBC Nations and Regions will all cover the Jubilee in their own special way. With live programming from across the UK, reporters will be out on the ground capturing the atmosphere and magic from the special weekend.

Local BBC Radio stations will team up with 70 street parties across England for the 70 years of The Queen’s reign.

On BBC Radio Wales, The Queen and Wales programme will mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen's accession to the throne; and Felicity Evans will take a look back Her Majesty’s life through archived sounds and personal memories of her many trips to Wales.

BBC Radio Scotland will air a special programme: Our Queen – A life in Music, which is a rich and diverse look at how music has influenced the life of The Queen, with emphasis on her Scottish links. Presented by Jamie MacDougall, the programme will be full of archive material, interviews and musical excerpts.

BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle will cover The Queen’s Jubilee with a station wide outside broadcast from County Fermanagh, and live inserts from Big Jubilee Lunch street parties. The stations will also feature a number of speech programmes, including Thought for The Day, Sunday Sequence, and Sunday with Steven Rainey, will feature reflections and topical conversations alongside events and community activity across Northern Ireland.

And last but not least for children, CBBC will be marking the weekend with a Blue Peter Jubilee takeover special at 5pm on Friday 3 June as well as two Saturday Mash-Up Jubilee specials on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June, from 9am.

On Saturday the Mash-Up team will be crossing live to Buckingham Palace as the stars gather for the Platinum Party at the Palace and on Sunday the team will be starting their Big Jubilee Lunch early, from 9am.

Thursday 2 June

Platinum Jubilee: Trooping the Colour - Starting off the special extended Bank Holiday Jubilee weekend on BBC One, Huw Edwards, Kirsty Young and JJ Chalmers will present the Jubilee Special of Trooping the Colour, from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade where the military spectacle will take place. The morning’s events celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne with an expected appearance of members of the Royal Family expected on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Platinum Beacons: Lighting up the Jubilee - The first day of the Platinum Jubilee will be marked by the traditional lighting of beacons across the Nation and Commonwealth. Around the country communities will be coming together to light more than 1,500 beacons to celebrate The Queen’s 70 year reign, and a principal beacon will be lit at Buckingham Palace. Presented by Kirsty Young, with reporters across the country to cover this historic celebration, including Jermaine Jenas at Buckingham Palace, Gethin Jones in Wales, Carol Kirkwood in Scotland, and Holly Hamilton in Northern Ireland. The broadcast will also include highlights from the day’s ceremony of Trooping the Colour.

Platinum Jubilee: A Service of Thanksgiving- In the presence of senior members of the royal family, David Dimbleby, Kirsty Young and Sophie Raworth will broadcast the Service of Thanksgiving live from St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Saturday 4 June

Platinum Party At The Palace - Hosts Kirsty Young, and Roman Kemp will lead the coverage of the Platinum Party at the Palace. Broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and across the entire BBC network, the Platinum Party at the Palace will bring together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform for a night of musical tributes to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Sunday 5 June

The Platinum Pageant - Presenters Kirsty Young, Clare Balding, AJ Odudu, Anita Rani, Sophie Morgan, and Anton Du Beke will come together for the Platinum Pageant. The Pageant will bring together artistic performers, dancers, musicians, military personnel, key workers and volunteers who will unite to tell the story of The Queen’s 70 year reign in an awe-inspiring festival of creativity. The Pageant will draw on talent from every part of the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. Later on that evening, Kirsty Young will recap key moments from the weekend in a highlights programme showcasing the most spectacular moments from The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Sunday 1 May

The Reunion: The Silver Jubilee - Kirsty Wark reunites key people involved in The Queen's Silver Jubilee of 1977 when communities were alive with streets parties and the nation turned red, white and blue. Kirsty is joined by veteran Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter who describes the “electric” atmosphere on The Mall, where thousands had camped out overnight to get a better view as The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh passed by in the Golden State Coach. Royal biographer Hugo Vickers describes how he worked in the office of the London Celebrations Committee which set in motion local street parties and glamorous cultural events. Mary Pearson, whose father Sir Martin Charteris was The Queen's Private Secretary, attended many of those events and sat on the wall of Clarence House gardens to watch The Queen proceed through the crowds to a thanksgiving service at St Paul's Cathedral.

Thursday 12 May

The Queens Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking is a one hour celebratory special for BBC One and iPlayer and follows the nationwide competition to find an original and celebratory cake or pudding fit for The Queen herself, to celebrate our Monarch’s 70 years on the throne. Grocer to the Royal Household, Fortnum & Mason, in conjunction with the Royal Household and The Big Lunch Charity, has challenged the people of Britain to create an iconic dish that will go down in history and become part of the British food story. The winning recipe will become a part of British culinary history, and the amateur baker who devised it will be revealed in the programme, chaired by Food writer and television presenter, Dame Mary Berry with a team comprising of award-winning home bakers and professional chefs, authors, historians and pâtissiers.

Sunday 22 May

RHS Chelsea Flower Show - To mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee RHS Chelsea will be paying tribute to her long-standing support of the event and taking a look at how Chelsea has shaped our gardening tastes over the past 70 years. The Sunday evening show will be a one-hour launch programme starting at 6pm with Sophie Raworth and Joe Swift. The duo will be taking an exclusive first look at the gardens and exhibits set to make headlines.

Wednesday 1 June

Bargain Hunt Jubilee Special - Two teams of royal enthusiasts go head-to-head at Cheshire Showground for a Bargain Hunt with a Royal twist! Master of ceremonies Charlie Ross challenges them to buy an item with a royal connection and noble experts Nick Hall and Stephanie Connell are on hand to guide their teams towards the best regal buys. Charlie embarks on an exclusive tour of the royal carriages at the National Railway Museum in York. He goes behind the scenes to see the elaborate palace on wheels used by Queen Victoria, the first British monarch to travel by train, as well as the carriages used by her successors to the throne. Then it’s full steam ahead to the auction in Sheffield to find out whether the Royal Reds or the Baronial Blues will be crowned today’s winners.

The Repair Shop Jubilee Special - Jay Blades and the team mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by bringing four treasured heirlooms with a royal connection, back to life. Amongst the barn’s arrivals is an unfinished Pearly Whites suit, a very special lantern steeped in Royal tradition that is still in use every day at the Tower, a hand-painted commemorative plate made to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887, and finally a tandem bicycle created by welding two normal bikes together back in 1977 – The Queen’s Silver Jubilee year.

Thursday 2 June

Morning Live will be showcasing and surprising some of the winners of the Platinum Champions Awards, an initiative run by The Royal Voluntary Service together with HRH The Duchess of Cornwall and The Big Jubilee Lunch.

The One Show will be putting together two special shows for the Platinum Jubilee on Thursday and Friday, looking ahead and celebrating all the different events being held in communities up and down the country. As well as being a guide to everything that will be coming up over the weekend with great guests and exclusive behind the scenes content.

EastEnders - As those around the nation will be celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this summer, so will the residents of Albert Square. With The Queen Victoria pub at the heart of the celebrations, Mick Carter has an idea for the residents of Walford to celebrate the special occasion and it doesn’t take long for Linda Carter to take control as they pull out all the stops with a special street party in honour of Her Majesty, making it a day to remember in Albert Square.

The Crown Jewels - To mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Clive Myrie has been given unique access to the Crown Jewels. With 13 Crowns and nearly 24,000 precious gemstones, the collection is the nation’s treasure. For nearly a thousand years these priceless objects have been an integral part of the coronation of our Kings and Queens, and have symbolised the power and authority of the monarchy. In this revelatory documentary Clive travels across Britain to explore the dramatic stories behind these precious jewels from before the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066 to today.

Radio 3 - The Verb – Live from The Queen’s private library - Presented by Ian McMillan, The Verb, Radio 3’s showcase for the best in new poetry, writing and performance, will host a special programme recorded in The Queen’s Library at Windsor Castle. The Poet Laureate Simon Armitage will perform a new work for the occasion, and we’ll explore rare poetic gems from the collection – annotated editions gifted to the library by his Laureate predecessors Wordsworth and Tennyson. Ian will discuss the collection and talk to a winner of The Queen’s Medal for Poetry, linking verse past and present in an intimate setting with an astonishing history.

Radio 2 - The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show (6.30-9.30am) - Listeners to The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show have been suggesting the perfect uplifting, happy song that everyone across the country can sing-along to at their Bank Holiday get-togethers and Jubilee street parties. Zoe also got the Together Campaign involved, who are all about uniting different communities and groups across the UK. Together is a coalition that invites everyone to join, from individuals and community groups to the UK’s best-known businesses and organisations, with an aim is to build kinder, closer, and more connected communities by bringing people together and bridging divides. Tune in today to discover what song has been selected as the perfect anthem with the message that the country is coming together for this wonderful occasion.

Radio 3 (across the week) - Composer of the Week: Handel and Crown - What could be more quintessentially British than a rousing chorus of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus? Or his anthem Zadok the Priest, which has been performed at every British coronation since 1727? Though the composer became a naturalised British subject, he was born in Germany and kept his German accent all his life. The same was true of the two Kings Handel served, George I and George II. In the lead up to the Royal Jubilee Weekend, Donald Macleod explores Handel’s crucial relationship with the British monarchy, and how he and the Georgian Kings helped forge a new sense of British culture and identity.

Thursday 2 June

Radio 2 - All Day Platinum PopMaster – Ken Bruce hosts a Platinum Jubilee All Day PopMaster from 7.30am until 5.30pm. Celebrity contestants will be platinum-selling artists pitting their wits against members of the quiz-loving public. There will be eight heats and two semi-finals with the grand final taking place after 5pm and the winner receiving the coveted All Day PopMaster trophy.

Radio 4 - A Laureate for Elizabeth - Masefield, Day-Lewis, Betjeman, Hughes, Motion, Duffy and Armitage - these are the poet laureates who have served during the reign of Elizabeth II. William Sieghart looks at their work as public poets and how they represent and epitomise not only an evolution on attitudes to monarchy, but also a radical change in poetry itself. Together, these poets provide a literary counterpart to the ways Britain has changed during the 70 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign.

Radio 2 - All Day Platinum Pop Hits – All the music today will come entirely from platinum-selling artists from across the past 70 years. Audiences can expect to hear music from Sinatra to Sheeran, Adele to Abba and The Beatles to Beyoncé, plus there might even be a track or two from who else, but Queen in there!

Radio 3 - Live music from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales - Live from St David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Ryan Bancroft present a programme celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, including: Britten’s Courtly Dances from Gloriana; Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3 in C minor for Piano and Orchestra, with soloist Stewart Goodyear; Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, op. 38 (Spring); and the world premiere of Alex Mills’ Landsker.

Radio 4 - Encounters With Elizabeth - Robert Lacey, distinguished royal observer and writer, presents an hour of celebratory Jubilee recollections of meeting The Queen. From the young waitress who was so nervous in the presence of Her Majesty that she dropped a full coffee pot over the table in front of her. To the royal private secretary who had to shield The Queen from the massed press corps as she collapsed into fits of giggles at the sight of a dozen bishops and clergy, vestments held high over bare legs, running to a meeting with Her Majesty which had unexpectedly been rescheduled early. Radio 2 - Platinum Party at the Palace: Backstage with Zoe Ball (6-8pm) - Zoe Ball hosts a backstage show from the Platinum Party at the Palace capturing all the build up to the event. Broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer as well, Zoe will be chatting to some of the global pop stars and rock royalty before they take to the stage.

Radio 2 - Ken Bruce to host the Platinum Party at the Palace: The Show (8-10.30pm) - Simulcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the Jubilee concert will bring together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform in front of Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace. The event will feature an incredible range of highlights from global music stars with a full, live orchestra, with actors from film, TV and the stage telling the story and celebrating some of the most significant cultural moments from The Queen’s seven-decade reign.

Sunday 5 June

Radio 2 – Michael Ball (11am-1pm) joins the nation, hearing from street parties across the UK, and he will lead the singalong of the ‘Thank You Song’ as chosen by the listeners of The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show in the run up to the weekend.

Radio 2 - A concert recorded at The Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (7-9pm) - From The King’s Speech to The King and I, from The Last Emperor to The Queen, royalty from all corners of the world and all eras of history has fascinated film makers since the dawn of cinema. As part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, soprano Carly Paoli performs with the BBC Concert Orchestra, along with some very special guests, bringing us a concert of music from both the big and small screen with a distinctly royal flavour. Conducted by Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra, Bramwell Tovey.

Radio 2 - Playing The Queen (9-10pm) – A documentary hosted by Edith Bowman where she talks to actors, lookalikes and impressionists about what it's like to play The Queen. Guests including Jan Ravens (Dead Ringers and Spitting Image), William Conacher (dialect coach for The Crown) and lookalike Jeannette Charles tell Edith the key to embodying the monarch.

BBC World Service will be marking the Jubilee with two 1-hour documentaries. The Royal Diplomat (28 May) sees the BBC’s Emma Barnett speak to friends and insiders who have worked with The Queen on global issues and seen her in operation, including David Cameron and former Commonwealth Secretary General Chief Emeka Anyaoku. And the second documentary, The Day I Met The Queen (4 June) is a special programme in which Winifred Robinson hears stories from people who have met The Queen at various moments during her long life and recall their encounters with her.

England

Local BBC radio stations will team up with 70 street parties across England for the 70 years of The Queen’s reign. Reporters will be capturing the atmosphere and magic from the special weekend. There will be live programming featuring key Jubilee moments that will run across the bank holiday weekend.

Local BBC news bulletins both on television and online will showcase street parties and celebrations straight from communities across the whole of England over the bank holiday weekend.



Scotland

BBC Scotland’s news coverage will include archive-led packages, with a focus on first-hand testimony from those who have a connection to the Royal Family. There’ll also be specially commissioned material from the news department’s digital teams to run across social platforms. Journalists will also be out and about across Scotland to report from some of the many locations with links to The Queen and Royal visits. The lighting of the beacons across Scotland, the UK and beyond on Thursday 2 June to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee will feature as part of a live BBC One special programme. Official beacons will be lit and will be covered live by BBC Scotland news and current affairs. There’ll be reports from a range of communities and neighbourhoods during the celebrations to mark the Jubilee across the holiday weekend.

Programming on BBC Radio Scotland includes Our Queen – A life in Music, on Thursday 2 June, 3.00 – 5.00 pm. This is a rich and diverse look at how music has influenced the life of The Queen, with emphasis on her Scottish links. Presented by Jamie MacDougall, the programme will be full of archive material, interviews, and musical excerpts.

In Platinum Pop with Bryan Burnett, on Friday 3 June, 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm,the audience will be treated to a musical romp through the last 70 years of great British music. Traditional music programme Pipeline will be reflecting on Scottish locations with Royal and piping connections.
In the edition of New Every Sunday at 7.30am on Sunday 5 June, the Very Reverend John Chalmers, one of the Chaplains in Ordinary to The Queen in Scotland, leads a service in honour of the monarch’s Jubilee anniversary. And Sunday Morning With Connie McLaughlin, 8.00 -10 am Sunday 5 June, marks The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by exploring the role faith has played throughout the monarch’s life and her special connection to the Church in Scotland.

Led by news and topical programming, BBC Scotland’s Gaelic services will reflect events across communities and the country. Content will range from a feature on the names and the stories of other Elizabeths to Radio nan Gaidheal’s own version of that classic Royal event, the garden party. BBC ALBA will discover what life is like for those individuals who represent Her Majesty in communities across Scotland as Lord-Lieutenants in the documentary ‘Ma’am as in Jam’ and a special edition of the spiritual series Alleluia will focus on this significant anniversary.



Wales

BBC Wales News services will reflect how communities across Wales are marking the event and have commissioned special reports to provide analysis and the historical context to the Jubilee from a Welsh perspective.

BBC Radio Cymru will be following the celebrations and reflecting the events across the country as part of their coverage.

Jubilee Journeys will be seventy audio portraits, featuring music and archive, of the 70 years of Her Majesty The Queen’s reign to be broadcast as part of BBC Radio Wales shows across the week.

BBC Northern Ireland’s local news services will reflect the weekends events.

BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle will cover The Queen’s Jubilee from June 2-5; including a station wide outside broadcast, scheduled for County Fermanagh, on Friday 3 June and live inserts from Big Jubilee Lunch street parties on Sunday 5 June.

A number of speech programmes, including Thought for The Day, Sunday Sequence, and Sunday with Steven Rainey, with reflections and topical conversations alongside events and community activity across Northern Ireland.

Music programmes such as Kerry McLean, Eve Blair and The Sunday Club will feature popular music from the past 70 years and invite contributors to interact and share their bank holiday plans.
BBC Northern Ireland will be included in the BBC One Network television show on the evening of Thursday 2 June. This will mark the lighting of Jubilee Beacons, with Holly Hamilton reporting live from Northern Ireland.



BBC Arts

BBC Arts and The Reading Agency recently announced the titles for the Big Jubilee Read, a reading for pleasure campaign celebrating great reads from celebrated authors from across the Commonwealth to coincide with Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
