In the course of establishing Outside Source as a mainstay of the evening schedule on the BBC’s news channels, Ros has pioneered a new style of video explainers, which continue to be very popular with audiences across social media, BBC iPlayer and the News website.

Ros has been a presenter for World Service, World News and the News Channel for close to 20 years, having joined the BBC in 2001 as a producer on BBC Radio 5 Live.

He has covered many big national and international stories throughout his career at the BBC, including the death of Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama's first inauguration, and most recently the confidence vote live from Downing Street on Monday night.

Ros Atkins, Analysis Editor of BBC News, says: “It's been hugely rewarding to see the response to the videos I've been making with the Outside Source team. I couldn't be more excited to be taking on this role and to build on our efforts to explain and analyse the biggest stories for audiences.”

Richard Burgess, Interim Senior Controller, News Content, says: “Ros’ ability to innovate on digital platforms, combined with his analytical skills, will be fundamental to the role. The On-Air editor role will be crucial in debunking misinformation and seeking the truth through examining data and open-source journalism.”

Ros will continue to regularly appear on the BBC’s TV news channels and radio output.
