BBC One, Two and iPlayer are set for an injection of culture, culinary delights and crime busting programming from January throughout the year to inject some excitement ready for 2023.

Brand new series, Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip is a wonderful addition to BBC Two and iPlayer in the 6.30pm slot in the Spring. Viewers will get to see Clive as they’ve never seen him before in his favourite destination. He will be exploring the culture and immersing himself in the Italian way of life. Clive will be training with Serie A champions ACF Fiorentina, and navigating in a car rally through Prosecco Country. He’ll also unearth the most Scottish town in Italy, find out why Sicily’s capital Palermo claims to be the country’s most diverse city and how sleepy Puglia became its LBGTQ+ capital.

Clive Myrie comments, “My new series is a chance for audiences to see me in a different light, and to showcase some of my favourite places in and around Italy. This programme was a great opportunity and I hope audiences tune in and come along for the ride.”

Big Little Crimes will kick off the new commissions in January for BBC One and iPlayer, a story-led series told by police officers from forces across the country, about the cases where they get a lucky break – catching big criminals from something that started out as a small misdemeanour. Cases include a major drug dealer, only caught because he was pulled over for speeding; and a case of suspected poaching that led to police discovering a man-made cave under a remote beach, blowing open a global smuggling operation. Viewers can expect to see police force dash-cam footage, drama reconstruction and serving and retired officers recounting crimes that they’ll never forget.

Dr Xand’s Con or Cure (w/t) will land on BBC One and iPlayer later in the year. This health focused consumer show will see Dr Xand van Tulleken (Morning Live) and Ashley John Baptiste (For Love or Money) take on ‘bad medicine’, exposing medical crimes up and down the country. From cons to quacks and scams to scares, the duo will expose false news, explain topical health dilemmas and showcase extraordinary medical crime cases.

Scam Interceptors will be back on BBC One and iPlayer for series two in 2023. Rav Wilding and reporter Nick Stapleton, with the help of ethical hacker and YouTube sensation Jim Browning, will be gaining even more access to the illegal call centres plaguing the UK. This time, they’ll not only be stopping victims from handing over their cash in the first place, but also tracking down and exposing the criminals behind these call centres.

Rav Wilding comments, “It’s great to be back for series two and once again turn the tables on the scammers! We’re digging deeper and exposing more than before, gaining access to scammers webcams and CCTV so we can see as well as hear them. We’ll also be offering even more tips, what to look out for, and importantly what to do if you think you’ve been scammed.”

Rick Stein’s Cornwall is back for a third series in February on BBC Two and iPlayer. Once again Rick embarks on a rich journey of discovery around Cornwall to show viewers what this county means to him. He will be out and about meeting fishermen, farmers, cider makers, tea growers, artists, writers and musicians. Rick’s series is full of everything and everybody who make this county so special.

Rick comments: "I’m delighted to be able to invite audiences back to Cornwall once again, to show why I love this county more than any other. I’ll be meeting those who make Cornwall what it is today and, using great Cornish produce, I hope I will inspire you to cook dishes of your own.”

Marcus Wareing will also be returning to BBC Two and iPlayer for series two of Tales from a Kitchen Garden which will see him both on his small holding and out in his local area, visiting a vast array of local producers, farmers and growers as he roots himself more strongly in the community around him, leaning on new friends for shared knowledge and support as well as stepping in to help where he can. He will be exploring the variety of produce on his doorstep from tomatoes and pumpkins, to Kent grown watermelons, and will be breaking down the barriers between farming and kitchen. Inspired by ingredients from his farm and beyond, Marcus will cook delicious dishes that showcase the very best of British produce.

Marcus Wareing comments, “This series I wanted to really dig deep into the possibilities that my land can offer, and take viewers on my personal journey to expand the variety of produce grown in my kitchen garden as well as the animals that graze in my fields. Viewers will get to see more than ever before.”

And also returning to the BBC Two schedule and iPlayer for series two is competitive-walking series Take a Hike. This year the series travels to North West Wales, Yorkshire and the Isle of Skye where it sees five local walkers indulge viewers in the wonder and spectacle of their favourite hikes. From windswept coastal paths to invigorating mountain climbs, magical woodlands to cascading waterfalls, this series epitomises everything ‘remarkable’ and beautiful about Britain all chosen by the competitors.

From cons to quacks, scams to scares and sifting fakes from facts. In this health consumer show dedicated to righting the wrongs of ‘bad medicine’, Dr Xand van Tulleken and journalist Ashley John Baptiste scour the country to expose medical quacks, explode false news, explain topical health and showcase extraordinary cases.

Out and about and presenting from the ‘health hub’ audiences will feel like they have stepped into their doctor’s surgery, with the pair answering the medical questions and issues viewers need to resolve.

They will expose tales of rogue doctors, topical fads and holiday health horrors, while Dr Xand will offer practical advice – what to look out for, what to do if caught up in something untoward and how to be better at navigating fact from fiction.

Specialist guest experts will also be on hand to answer viewers’ questions and to offer pinpointed practical advice.

Big Little Crimes tells the gob-smacking stories of ordinary beat coppers who stumble upon a key piece of evidence, a haul of stolen goods, a suspect on the run… and bring a major criminal to justice. A story-led series with a mixture of dash cam footage, reconstructions and talking heads, the series will show police forces catch some serious ‘baddies’ for minor crimes. From drugs to murder, no crime is too small when it comes to catching criminals.

Scam Interceptors Series 2 – (20 x 30) 10.45am, BBC One and BBC iPlayer

The cost-of-living crisis isn’t the only thing putting pressure on people’s finances. So too are the scammers calling from illegal call centres based abroad. They’re fleecing UK citizens out of thousands of pounds every year, making their lives a misery.

Which is why the return of BBC Daytime’s Scam Interceptors is so timely. In 2023, Rav Wilding and reporter Nick Stapleton, with the help of ethical hacker and YouTube sensation Jim Browning, have gained even more access to the illegal call centres plaguing the UK.

This time, they’ll not only be stopping victims from handing over their cash in the first place, but also tracking down and exposing the criminals behind these call centres. And watching on as the police bring them to justice.

A purpose-built scam hub based in Glasgow’s Pacific Quay, has been set up to catch the scammers in the act, and this time they have even fewer places to hide. Not only is the team able to hear what the scammers are up to, access to their webcams and CCTV means they can also see them and how they operate.

It’s a race against time, as the team try to pull victims from under the scammers spell and back into reality before they lose any cash.

Rick Stein’s Cornwall, series 3 – (10x30) 6.30pm BBC Two and BBC iPlayer

Rick Stein once again embarks on a rich journey of discovery around Cornwall to show viewers what Cornwall means to him.

Rick will lead us on tracks less travelled to his favourite haunts, championing the food, history, music, art, culture and wildlife he adores so much, celebrating the Cornish characters who keep the Celtic heart beating, and introducing us to friends who share his passion for this unique place in the British Isles.

Each episode will open our eyes to something new about modern-day Cornwall, England’s most westerly peninsula. Celebrating the stunning landscape at every opportunity (with unique drone footage) Rick will drive around the region to cover Cornwall’s rich and varied heritage in art, history, literature and music.

As ever food will be at the heart of the series, with audiences learning of at least one new recipe an episode that will be inspired by the people Rick meets along the way. Simple to execute, easy to follow, that can easily be replicated and sourced from anywhere in the country.

Marcus Wareing: Tales from a Kitchen Garden – (10x60) BBC Two and iPlayer

This series, Marcus Wareing, chef extraordinaire, successful restaurateur, workaholic and now established small holder, is stepping up his ambitions and plans at his smallholding in East Sussex where he’s been spending more and more time away from the kitchen and in his garden.

Over the past year, he’s had many successes but a few failures, and now he wants to really dig deep into the possibilities of what his land can offer – from expanding the variety of produce grown in his kitchen garden to the animals that graze on his fields, Marcus knows there’s so much more that he can achieve and so much more to learn.

The kitchen garden and orchard are flourishing, as are the chickens, pigs, longhorn cows and Lonk sheep that Marcus introduced to the small holding last year. But there is always room for more and Marcus has big plans to bring an even greater variety of livestock and produce to the farm from geese to piglets as well as many more crops, trees and even a smoker.

He’ll be visiting a vast array of local producers, farmers and growers as he roots himself more strongly in the community around him, leaning on new friends for shared knowledge and support as well as stepping in to help where he can. Exploring the incredible variety of produce on his doorstep from tomatoes and pumpkins to Kent grown watermelons.

But good food is at the heart of everything he does, having spent years in professional kitchens, developing recipes, it always comes down to flavour and he wants to continue breaking down the barriers between farming and kitchen, immersing himself in learning where food comes from, how it grows, different production methods and, most importantly, what affects the taste of our food.

Inspired by ingredients from his farm and beyond, Marcus will cook incredible dishes that showcase the very best of British produce, from veggie BBQs that celebrate the bounty of the kitchen garden to show stopping beef ribs for a celebratory feast. He will also be preserving his excess produce in jams, pickles, cordials and even delicious butters.

Throughout the series Marcus will continue to learn that having a small holding means a lot of hard work, but incredibly high rewards in the form of friendships and of course, fabulous food.
