Teacup Candles

Dilly says: "Soy wax is environmentally friendly and clean burning, meaning less soot. Soy wax also burns much slower than paraffin so the candle will last longer. Win-win!"

Essential Equipment [Makes Four]
• Wooden spoon / spatula
• Thermometer
• Approx 500g soy wax flakes
• Large heatproof bowl
• Saucepan and water
• Hob
• Candle Wicks
• Pencils
• 4 Vintage teacups
• Candle-making dyes
• Glue gun or sticker
• Newspaper

Instructions
1. Measure out the wax. The easiest way to do this is to measure it using the teacups that you will be using as moulds: 2x teacups full of wax flakes = 1 finished teacup candle.
2. Spread out some newspaper on your work surface and put your empty teacups on top. Stick the wicks to the bottom of the teacups using the glue gun or stickers. Wrap the excess wick around a pencil or skewer and balance it across the top of the cup, to hold the wicks upright.
3. Pour the required amount of wax into a heatproof bowl. Slowly heat it above a saucepan of boiling water on the hob. Stir regularly using a spoon or spatula.
4. Heat your wax to 80 degrees centigrade. Once it’s clear, it’s ready to use. If you find the wax has reached 80 centigrade and still contains unmelted wax then do not continue to heat it, just place the jug safely on a table and gently stir the wax until it dissolves.
5. Once fully melted you can add any fragrance or dyes you have to the wax.
6. Carefully pour the wax into your teacups and re-centre the wicks if necessary. Leave about half an inch from the top.
7. Leave to set overnight, or for around 4-5 hours.
