About Samia Choudry

Samia is the other half of the Year 11 Golden Couple, with Preston Walters. On paper Preston is her perfect match – but the more she thinks about it, the more she’s starting to realise their relationship is based largely on looks and not much else. Samia will go from strength to strength, learning to love herself and listen to her own needs rather than trying to always please others.

Priyasasha Kumari Q&A

Welcome to Waterloo Road! How excited are you to be joining the series?

I am beyond excited, and I think that I can speak for most of us when I say that we grew up watching the show, so to be on the new series is just a feeling like no other. I'm feeling very blessed.

Tell us about your character Samia and what audiences can expect to see from her in the series?

Samia is bright, she's intelligent and she definitely has a voice, so you know you can expect to see her use that voice in many ways. She's gonna bring some love, we’re going to see the essence of friendships, and you might see a tear or two. We’ll have to wait and see.

Waterloo Road has always been known for broaching difficult topics on screen, do you feel the new series has been able to continue this legacy?

I mean, we'd like to think that it has, and we hope that it has. The original series was so iconic, and their storylines definitely sparked conversations in many living rooms across the UK. The current storylines that we have, I think they're definitely going to be captivating and really resonate with the topics of today's society.

How do you think Waterloo Road reflects 2023 life in a school?

Well, it's been a while since I've been at school, but I do have some cousins in school who are 16 and 17 so when I hear them talking about their experiences, I'd definitely like to think that a lot of young people will be able to resonate with the show and feel a connection to it.

Samia is known for her feisty nature in the show, were you similar to her when you were at school?

Feisty? I'd like to say that she is empowering. She's definitely an empowering character. She likes to utilise her voice in many ways in the show. When I think back to myself, I was a loudmouth at school, a chatterbox at that, but I wasn't as intelligent as Samia.
