Love in the Countryside - new series that sees rural dwellers look for love with Sara Cox's help

Love in the Countryside is a brand new six part BBC Two series that sees eight rural dwellers from across the UK enlist the help of farmer’s daughter Sara Cox in their quest for love

As Sara knows, if you work on the land, you’re often wedded to it so she will be taking the bull by the horns and going on a mission to find our lonely rural romantics the partner of their dreams.

Viewers will meet 25 year old Ed, a dairy farmer from Lancashire, 28 year old equine vet Heather from Yorkshire, 32 year old Christine and 39 year old Richard, both cattle and sheep farmers from Dumfries and Galloway, 33 year old Paul, a farmhand from Worcestershire, 52 year old farmer Peter from Yorkshire, 52 year old farrier Mark from Norfolk and Wendy, a 59 year old pig farmer from Herefordshire.

All eight posted detailed dating profiles online in the hope of attracting letters from singles looking to quit the 9-5 rat-race in favour of a different pace of life.

After carefully considering each letter, our rural romantics must decide how many applicants they would like to meet for a nerve wracking face to face speed date. The pressure is on for the dates to make an instant impact if they are to be invited to return home with the rurals and find out what life is really like in the countryside. And when they get there, can they keep their competition at bay and all eyes on them? The next stage sees our rurals choose who they would like to take on romantic dates and city breaks to see who has the true potential to be their love in the countryside.

But the stakes are high, our rurals cannot leave their jobs and land so if a match does happen, their dates need to be prepared to up sticks and start a new life amongst remote farms and fields. Knee deep in mud and out of their depth, how much will they be willing to sacrifice for true love?

The series will see traditional Yorkshireman Peter show his softer side, Christine and Heather re-evaluate what they really want from a relationship and discover why Lancashire lad and young dairy farmer Ed’s dates are impressed by his unusual way of navigating the milking of his cows!

Love in the Countryside is a heartfelt, funny and moving look at the difficulties of modern day love when two worlds collide. Can Cupid work his magic in the countryside?
