Rachel, 39, is Head of Amateur Boxing at Rathbone and Hawley ABC; an England Talent Pathway Coach and a Met Police Detective Sergeant.

Rachel found boxing at 23, when she searched for a new challenge to fit around her unsociable police-force hours. It wasn’t long before she found herself training for the Met Police team, winning the Elite National Championships, and added medals in two World Police and Fire Games to her titles.

Rachel has led many boxing programmes alongside her role for the Met Police, including initiatives with the Prince’s Trust. She devotes her time away from the force coaching boxers, is a mentor for the England Boxing Female Coach Development Programme and an England Boxing Coaching subcommittee member.

Rachel was also selected as an England Talent Pathway Coach, and coaches boxers to international standard.

Rachel’s "a good coach troubles the comfortable and comforts the troubled" approach qualifies her well to see the Fight School boxing students through to the final fight night.

How did you become involved in boxing?

I competed in every sport imaginable as a child, but that stopped when I went to university. When I graduated and joined the police I wanted to find something competitive again and a colleague suggested entering the Lafone Cup, the Met Police boxing tournament, and I went to train with the Police team, getting in extra sessions wherever I could as I'd already told anyone who'd listen I was competing.

There were not that many girls competing back then, so I had a straight final at York Hall. I turned up to weigh in to find my opponent had broken her hand and the bout was off. My first bout was a few weeks later against the Royal Airforce. My winning streak began and I was hooked.

What would you say to someone watching this series, ready to make a change in their life?

Whatever it may be, whether you think you can or you can't do it, you are probably right! Get your mindset right and remove your excuses then give it everything you've got. You'll see throughout the programme that those who do this get the most out of it.
