BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra today announced two new and exciting signings for the station - Jack Saunders and Snoochie Shy will both be joining the Radio 1 and 1Xtra family on a permanent basis.
Starting in September, Jack Saunders will host a new music show (Mon-Thurs, 11pm-1am) on BBC Radio 1, combining the best in guitar, rock and alternative music with entertainment and humour. Starting his career in student radio, Jack went on to present for Kerrang! Radio and Radio X, as well as currently working with MTV.

Jack Saunders says: “This means everything to me, I’ve wanted to be part of Radio 1 since I started listening to radio, so to be asked to join is a dream come true. To be following on from Huw is an honour, he carved my music tastes and to be championing new bands and indie music is a huge privilege.”

Snoochie Shy will be joining the 1Xtra family in January, with her very own specialist music show every Monday (1-3am). Previously she has hosted the breakfast show on Radar Radio, presented for YO MTV RAPS! and is currently part of 1Xtra’s Residency. A broadcaster, DJ and model, expect lots of energy and style.

Snoochie Shy says: “I’m really gassed to officially become a part of the 1Xtra family, I’ve been listening to the station since I was a kid so this is sick news. I’m excited to be bringing the music that I love to the new show.”

Huw Stephens moves to Sundays (11pm-1am) to front a new BBC Music Introducing programme, supporting new and unsigned artists across the UK.

Huw Stephens says: “I am looking forward to continuing to champion new artists through the new BBC Music Introducing show on BBC Radio 1. Giving artists a platform, connecting them with audiences, and supporting independent labels and music has always been an important part of my life. It’s also a vital part of what Radio 1 does. I’m looking forward to hearing and sharing a lot of great music.”

Ben Cooper, Controller Radio 1 and 1Xtra says: “Radio 1 and 1Xtra listeners get two new young exciting presenters full of energy, humour and passion for new music. I can’t wait for their new shows to start.”

Continuing to bring the biggest names in dance music, Radio 1’s Residency will move from Thursdays (11pm-1am) to its new slot of Mondays (1-3am), simulcast across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra until Snoochie Shy begins her show on 1Xtra in January.

Monki will remain a part of the Radio 1 Dance family.

The new appointments will see Radio 1’s Sunday night schedule look like this:

7-9pm - Radio 1’s Chillest Show with Phil Taggart

9-11pm - The Rock Show with Dan P Carter

11pm-1am - BBC Music Introducing with Huw Stephens
