Record listening figures for Greg James and Dotty on Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra

Latest Rajar data (Q2 2019, 1 April - 23 June 2019) shows Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra have drawn in more listeners each week

BBC Radio 1 had a weekly reach of 10.56 million listeners aged 10+, an increase from 10.18m last quarter and 10.25m last year

BBC Radio 1Xtra also saw increases this quarter, with 1.17 million weekly listeners (10+) up on 1.13m last quarter and 1.11m last year

The proportion of BBC Radio listening on digital platforms is at 53.6% from 49% in the same quarter last year, with a record 7 million people listening live to our stations online and through apps

Greg James continues to grow his audience with his highest listening figures since he started on Radio 1 Breakfast. Now 5.69 million listeners 10+ tune in each week (Monday-Thursday), up from 5.44m last year. The 1Xtra Breakfast Show with Dotty has seen a record number of 10+ listeners at 509,000, up 68,000 on the quarter and 131,000 on the year.

Already people are enjoying listening to us in different ways with a record 75 million downloads of Radio 4 programmes and podcasts this quarter as well as a record 7 million people listening live to our stations online and through apps.”

All BBC Radio’s weekly reach over the period was 34.08 million (34.44m last quarter and 34.47m last year) and a share of 49.3% (51.4% last quarter and 51.7% last year).

BBC Radio 1 posted a reach of 10.56 million listeners aged 10+ (from 10.18m last quarter and 10.25m last year). There were 9.56 million 15+ listeners (from 9.30m last quarter and 9.24m last year) while the network’s share of listening was 5.9% (from 5.7% last quarter and 5.9% last year). The Radio 1 Breakfast Show now attracts 5.69 million listeners 10+ (Monday-Thursday), up from 5.44m last year. This quarter saw 5.19million 15+ listeners (Monday-Thursday), compared to 5.04m last quarter.

BBC Radio 2’s weekly audience was 14.59 million (from 15.36m last quarter and 14.94m last year) while the station’s share of listening was 16.4% (17.4% last quarter and 17.9% last year). The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show attracted 8.27 million listeners per week, compared to 9.05m last quarter and 9.04m last year.

BBC Radio 3’s audience was 2.03 million (from 2.04m last quarter and 1.91m last year) and its share was 1.3% (1.2% last quarter and 1.1% last year).

BBC Radio 4 posted a weekly reach of 10.57 million during the quarter (11.01m last quarter and 10.60m last year) and a share of 11.1% (11.9% last quarter and 11.7% last year). The Today programme (Monday-Saturday) has 7.02 million listeners each week, from 7.32m last quarter and 6.98m last year.

BBC Radio 5 live posted a reach of 5.24 million listeners (5.40m last quarter and 4.73m last year) and a share of 3.2% (3.4% last quarter and 3.1% last year).

Amongst digital-only stations, BBC Radio 1Xtra had a reach of 1.17 million weekly listeners 10+ from 1.11m last quarter and 1.13m last year (1.10m weekly listeners 15+ from 1.05m last quarter and 1.03m last year), BBC Radio 6 Music drew 2.29 million listeners (from 2.52m last quarter and 2.44m last year), BBC Radio 4 Extra attracted 2.22 million listeners per week (from 2.24m last quarter and 1.97m last year), and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra posted 1.48m listeners (from 708,000 last quarter and 1.17m last year).

BBC Asian Network drew 614,000 listeners, compared to 536,000 listeners last quarter and 672,000 last year.

The BBC World Service posted a weekly UK audience of 1.45 million (from 1.48m last quarter and 1.51m last year).

BBC local radio reached 7.59 million listeners per week, from 7.86m last quarter and 7.87m last year.
