All new schedule of presenters for BBC Radio 1 this Christmas

BBC Radio 1 are introducing a new roster of DJs over the festive period this Christmas. From Boxing Day until New Year’s Eve, Radio 1 want to showcase the best in new and emerging talent and offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to broadcast on the UK’s biggest youth radio station.

The station are looking for those who know their way round a radio desk and have previous radio experience, be it in community, hospital, student or local radio. Aspiring presenters can submit their demos from today Thursday 10 October via the Radio 1 website with submissions closing midnight on Sunday 27 October.

Applicants have the chance to follow in the footsteps of the station’s current roster of DJs including Greg James who started out presenting on student radio before joining Radio 1 and now hosts the coveted breakfast show slot.

Clara Amfo who presents the legendary Live Lounge slot started her career as an intern in radio, doing voiceovers before getting her own show. Nick Grimshaw also presented for his university radio station, going on to working as an intern for a broadcaster, whereas Annie Mac was Assistant Producer to Zane Lowe, later going on to take over Radio 1’s most influential music discovery show.

Aled Haydn-Jones, Head of Programmes, BBC Radio 1 says: “We’re passionate at Radio 1 about finding and developing new talent, whether its artists, DJs or presenters. We’re excited to be able to offer this opportunity to give some new young presenters a very public platform to help them establish their footing in the UK radio industry. We can’t wait to hear who’s out there!”

Radio 1 has long been dedicated to supporting the best emerging talent from across the UK. The station champions artists through initiatives such as Radio 1’s Brit List, a commitment to elevating new talent to the Radio 1 ‘A’ list, Brit List offers other opportunities such as live performance, documentary films, editorial and social initiatives, interviews and much more to help build meaningful connections with new fans.
