BBC Radio 1 has announced the new line-up for BBC Radio 1’s Residency - the strand that brings listeners the biggest names in cutting-edge, forward-thinking dance music from across the club spectrum.

New names joining the Residency list are Grimes, Teki Latex, Caribou, and Octo Octa & Eris Drew. Meanwhile Denis Sulta, Saoirse, Paul Woolford and Sherelle are staying on rotation and altogether will form the Residency team from March - August 2020.

Radio 1’s Residency incorporates two shows on a Sunday night into Monday morning between 1am-2am and 2am-3am, featuring cutting edge DJs and producers from the UK and around the world.

Grimes is a Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer and visual artist. Her music incorporates elements of varied styles and genres, including dream pop, R&B, electronic music, and hip hop. Born and raised in Vancouver, Grimes began releasing music independently in the late 2000s, releasing two albums, Geidi Primes and Halfaxa in 2010 on Arbutus Records. She subsequently signed with 4AD and garnered critical praise for her subsequent third and fourth albums.

Grimes says: "I’m very honoured to announce that I’ll be joining the BBC Radio 1 Residency team! I can’t wait to get into my favourite weird music with y’all. Caribou is the alias for the vocal-led productions of Dan Snaith. An avid record collector, the past few years have seen him focus on a relentless DJ schedule and a run of consistently well-received club tracks under his Daphni moniker. But for 2020, Dan has stepped back into his Caribou guise along with a brand new album. It is his versatile approach to DJing and music making that guarantees a unique residency on Radio 1 over the coming months. Expect esoteric pop, forward-thinking club music and exclusives from some of the most crucial figures in electronic production.

Caribou says: "I’m super excited to be joining the BBC Radio 1 Residency. I look forwarding to sharing lots of my favourite music plus some of my own edits and unreleased tracks."

Eris Drew and Octo Octa are producers and DJs making autobiographical work that aims to have listeners smiling, crying, shouting, and dancing. Together they run the T4T LUV NRG record label and party series from their log cabin in New Hampshire, USA. They started playing together as a duo a couple of years ago, after discovering a shared love of 90s hardcore records and each other!

Both are vinyl purists and highly skilled turntablists who enjoy using mixing techniques like scratching, layering and cutting to create unique blends of their beloved records. Expect plenty of 90s house, hardcore and jungle mixed with fresh new sounds to euphoric effect. Mixmag named Eris Drew & Octo Octa their DJs of the year in 2019. They are also advocates for trans, non-binary and queer people and mentors aspiring DJs and electronic musicians.

Eris Drew and Octo Octa say: "We're beyond excited to bring the vibe of our intimate home-listening sessions to BBC Radio 1. Each show will be mixed in our ecstatic, queer, cut-up style and will feature tracks from our immense vinyl collection, showcasing music by producers of the past, present and future."

Nearly everyone in the underground has heard the name Teki Latex at one point or another, from his voice being used as a sample on ASAP Rocky's mega hit Wild For The Night, to his hard-earned reputation as the King Of Blends. Formerly a member of revered progressive French Rap group TTC, he has recently worked as a curator for Boiler Room France. Over the next six months listeners to Teki’s show can expect the unexpected, delivered in his truly unique style.

Teki Latex says: "I've been dreaming of getting asked to do one of those BBC residencies for a long time. A lot of my DJ heroes have been a part of this program, and it feels like it's a rite of passage, an important achievement to unlock in this great video game which is the life of a DJ. I cannot wait to unleash a whole multiverse of exciting club music, blends, exclusives, classic tunes and weird unexpected oddities monthly on the BBC airwaves."
