The presenters

Carl Cox

Carl Cox began DJing at the age of 15 and has since become a pioneer of club culture and an Ibiza legend. Championing acid house, techno and dance music, Carl held a 15-year long Residency at Space in Ibiza and is to this day one of the most in-demand DJs on the planet. Aside from DJing he’s signed countless artists to his label over the years and has released seminal mixes including his 1995 mix CD F.A.C.T. Carl continues to work with some of the biggest names in music including Pharrell and Tiesto and has entertained millions with his live streams during the pandemic.

“Well one thing is for sure, I am really looking forward to coming back to BBC Radio 1 for The Residency. I’ve got so much new music to unleash, we’re going to need more than 6 weeks for sure. Turn it up, enjoy, sit back and relax - if not roll back the carpets and boogie away, it’s going to be an absolutely fantastic journey.”

Carista

More than just a DJ, curator Carista aims to produce more exciting moments for those lucky enough to witness the Utrecht native. Showcasing her unique take on Soul, Electronic, House, Garage or whatever the vibes call, Carista has very quickly risen to become one of Europe’s most respected selectors. Music lovers and tastemakers were able to see Carista in full effect in collaboration with Boiler Room in February 2019 and listeners can expect the same infectious energy from her Residency on Radio 1.

“From listening religiously every week to Benji B and Gilles Peterson in my early teens – two people who shaped my taste in music through radio, fast-forwarding to now my own show on BBC Radio 1! It feels a bit surreal to host my monthly residency on a station with such an incredible legacy. I can’t wait to share timeless gems and play new and exclusive music from artists from all over the globe who excite me on the airwaves.”

Avalon Emerson

Avalon Emerson is an American music producer, remixer and DJ. In the studio, she's known for her records on the London label AD 93, and in 2020 she contributed to the seminal series DJ Kicks, from !K7 Records. She has remixed a range of artists from Robyn to Slowdive, and continually DJs small dark rooms as well as festivals around the world. From 90's UK Hardcore to Neue Deutsche Welle, Contemporary House and more, Avalon's sets span genre and era.

"BBC Radio 1 might as well be dance music's radio of record and I'm so honoured and excited to be a part of the Radio 1 Residency line-up. I'll keep my listeners up to date with everything that I'm loving at the moment, while also folding in gems from the past, heavyweight classics and personal favourites, plus edits and new music of my own stirred in for good measure.”

Anz

Renowned for her genre-spanning, high energy productions and DJ sets, Anz is an exciting talent who’s quickly rising through the ranks. Last year she won DJ Mag’s Breakthrough DJ of the year and her ‘Loos In Twos’ EP on Hessle Audio was one of the biggest Dance releases of 2020. Manchester-born Anz delves into Electro, UK Garage, Jungle and more, with her own contemporary take on UK club music. She’s earned critical acclaim with her up-tempo releases and celebrated annual production mixes.

“Before I’d ever been to a club, listening to Radio 1 shows like Benji B’s in my childhood bedroom helped me understand what DJing could be. It’s an honour to be part of the BBC Radio 1 Residency and to join the canon of incredible DJs who’ve come before. I can’t wait to share more of the music I love, with more people!”
