BBC Introducing have been working with local supporters of new music to give the musical talent of East London a once-in-a-lifetime experience of playing on the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend - the biggest musical event in BBC Radio 1’s history.

A range of artists, bands, young rappers and MCs will take to the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend to showcase their talent to a brand new audience.

Rising Tide, Urban Development, Land of Kings Festival, Bigga Fish and Eat Your Own Ears, along with BBC Introducing shows across Radio 1Xtra, Asian Network and BBC London have suggested some of East London's finest up and coming musical talent.

The suggestions then went to a panel of BBC musical tastemakers, including DJ Target, Mistajam, Jen Long, Radio 1Xtra’s Head of Music and Ben Turner from Association of Independent Festivals.

The East London line-up for the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend will be:

• Stevie Neale – Powerhouse soul crooner who caters in smooth, sophisticated nu jazz
• Cheekie Bugga - Set to cause a big storm in 2012. With his hyper vocal tone and witty lyrics Cheekie is definitely one to keep and ear out for
• Arthur Beatrice – Enigmatic four-piece currently kicking up a storm on the blogosphere with their shimmering indie pop
• Shezar – Strong, colourful and wild singer compared to Jill Scott, Macy Gray and Lauryn Hill
• Joe Black – Smooth, laid back old-school hip-hop from this young rapper, songwriter, youth worker and vocal coach
• Pepstar – SBTV and Radio 1Xtra-approved MC who’s making a name for himself on the scene
• Paigey Cakey – Actress, rapper, singer and dancer who started writing at the age of 10
• Lil Simz – MC inspired by Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne, Lauryn Hill, Kanye and Bob Marley who first picked up a mic at the age of 8 and has gone on to become a budding writer, producer, dancer and actress
• Xploder – A self-proclaimed “reserved individual” from the East London Grime scene currently causing waves with his explosive lyrical energy
• Isaac Danquah – DJ Target-approved rapper who’s bouncing bass lines, samples and autobiographical rhymes with a twist, which calls to mind Jurassic 5
• Savages – Incredibly hyped all female four-piece who cater in frenzied, dark new wave riffs and biting vocals and are making a name for themselves with their visceral live shows
• Kersha Bailey – A singer/songwriter and self-taught guitarist whose roots lie in acoustic jazz but who has since branched out into indie and alternative soul. Her influences include Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Jill Scott and Eva Cassidy
• UDVC – Talented colourful vocal collective of young people from East London who can take on a range of sonic styles and have included such founding members as Labyrinth and Talay Riley
• In Search of – Self-taught four-piece who formed at school and now tout an eclectic and distinctive mix of Rock, Reggae, R&B, Hip-Hop and Jazz
• Lola King & The Kickstarts – Fronted by the half-singing, half-rapping Lola King, this big bass-driven quartet are inspired by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Lauryn Hill, No Doubt and Ian Brown and mix indie, ska and hip-hop to make pop music with attitude
• Random Impulse – Jovel Walker better known as Random Impulse is a guitarist/rapper/writer and producer who has written for Lupe Fiasco and HBO and CBS Shows.

The five organisations who contributed to this line-up represent the diverse musical scene in East London and are passionate about supporting the grassroots talent.

Rising Tide is a well-established training and youth enterprise music charity. With over 10 years of delivering in Hackney and across the UK, Rising Tide pride themselves on offering quality and accessible provision to the community while being closely linked with partnerships within the music and related industries.

Bigga Fish is a not for profit youth organisation, and is dedicated to the education of 13-21 year olds through music and its related industries. They aim to focus the energy of urban youth, giving them knowledge and opportunities to achieve their goals.

Eat Your Own Ears - www.eatyourownears.com

Eat Your Own Ears (EYOE) are London’s biggest independent live music promoter, organising over 200 concerts a year in the capital at numerous venues. They have a reputation for breaking new acts, and promoted the first shows for The XX, Florence and the Machine, Caribou, Four Tet and many others. They work with about 100 different artists currently, and pride themselves on promoting music from across the spectrum of genres with the hope of delivering inspiring music to all.
