Tulisa, Alicia Keys, Plan B, Trey Songz, Labrinth and many more confirmed for BBC Radio 1Xtra Live 2012BBC Radio 1Xtra Live is back this November, with a host of big named stars set to hit London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham for four massive free nights of urban music from Monday 12 November to Thursday 15 November. Some of the biggest 1Xtra artists of the moment including Trey Songz, Rita Ora, Plan B and Alicia Keys are set to headline the massive event, touring the country with 1Xtra and a selection of the station’s presenters including MistaJam, Trevor Nelson, Charlie Sloth, Sarah-Jane Crawford, Twin B, Adele Roberts and Yasmin Evans. Over the past week 1Xtra’s Twin B announced the hosting cities for 1Xtra Live during his breakfast show, whilst MistaJam revealed the artists set to perform at each of these cities during his evening show. 1Xtra’s new drivetime DJ Charlie Sloth has been touring the hosting cities this week, visiting key landmarks including the sets of Coronation Street (Manchester) and Hollyoaks (Liverpool) and Birmingham’s Cadbury World – even spreading the message about the return of 1Xtra Live by getting the 1Xtra Live logo stencilled onto his stomach with fake tan. Tearing up the opening night of 1Xtra Live at London’s Brixton Academy on Monday 12 November alongside headliner Trey Songz is hit singer Tulisa, American hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar, Nigeria’s Wizkid and West London RnB star Angel. The party moves onto the Manchester Apollo on Tuesday 13 November where Grime MC Wiley, X Factor contestant Misha B, Manchester singer Daley and drum 'n' bass and dubstep producer DJ Fresh will perform alongside headliner Rita Ora. On Wednesday 14 November the Liverpool Echo Arena plays host to headlining chart topper Plan B, East-London’s Labrinth, Hackney quartet Rudimental and London rapper Devlin. The culmination of four nights of amazing music and 1Xtra live broadcasts takes place at the Birmingham Ballroom on Thursday 15 November. The closing night will see Garage-House duo Disclosure and RnB singer Miguel support headliner American superstar Alicia Keys. 1Xtra will also be showcasing local talent from each of the host cities across the week of 1Xtra Live. From Monday to Thursday the Xtra Talent strand in the station’s specialist evening shows will be hosted by a local presenter showcasing music from their city in partnership with BBC Introducing. Ben Cooper, Controller, BBC Radio 1Xtra said: “1Xtra Live is a key moment for us to showcase and celebrate exactly what the station stands for – the best new urban music. This year’s event has an incredible line-up and will provide a great opportunity to connect with our young listeners across the UK.” This year’s amazing line-up marks the fifth consecutive year BBC Radio 1Xtra Live has brought the biggest free urban music event to audiences across the country. Each event will be simulcast live on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and streamed online at bbc.co.uk/1xtra plus Wednesday and Thursday’s shows will be broadcast on the red button from 7pm to 11pm. Each day, ahead of 1Xtra Live Charlie Sloth and Adele Roberts will start the party by broadcasting a special show live from the hosting city between 4pm and 7pm - kicking off the special shows from a secret London location on the first day of the tour. The following morning from 7am to 10am 1Xtra Breakfast Show host Twin B will reflect on the previous night’s proceedings live from each city. Also, following on from the success of Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s Academy in Hackney the ‘Take It On’ talks – part of Radio 1’s commitment to encourage young people to get inspired and get involved to take on their future will touch down in each of the hosting cities. These sessions will allow an invited audience of young people to participate in talks on a range of subjects including business, entertainment and sport from a number of famous and inspirational names.
