Abra Cadabra, 1Xtra has since followed Stefflon Don’s success right through to her hit with French Montana Hurtin’ Me. Stefflon Don’s track with Skepta Ding-A-Ling debuted on DJ Target’s 1Xtra show and her latest song Pretty Girl feat. Tiggs da Author is currently on the 1Xtra playlist.

1Xtra's Dancehall DJs including Seani B have heavily supported Popcaan over the years with big party anthems such as Ravin' and Only Man She Want receiving early daytime support, through to his new album Forever and tracks Body So Good and Wine for Me, which is currently on the 1Xtra playlist. Popcaan gained a huge fan base when he hooked up with Drake for their release Controlla.

This year, Kojo Funds featured on the 1Xtra Hot For list and his new track Who Am I feat. Bugzy Malone is currently on the 1Xtra playlist. Earlier this month, Kojo Funds performed at the 1Xtra Ibiza Takeover alongside B Young, Bugzy Malone, Lady Leshurr, Not3s, Ray BLK, RAYE, Wretch 32 and many more. Last November, Kojo Funds performed with Mabel in the 1Xtra Live Lounge for their successful track Finders Keepers, which spent 31 weeks on the Official Chart thanks to 1Xtra support.

Outreach activities

Ahead of 1Xtra Live, 1Xtra has launched their Outreach plans which start on 23 August and will run across six weeks through to the end of September. The Inspire ME (Motivation & Empower) Tour will visit seventeen schools and six community centres across London, targeting some key boroughs that have been badly affected by knife crime, low unemployment rates and poverty.

The key objective is to motivate and empower young people aged 12-18 by sharing stories and advice of success from role models from their community. These role models will range from artists, actors, influencers, entrepreneurs and 1Xtra presenters. This year, the Outreach activities will also introduce Xtra Voices, amazing young people who have made an impact in their community.

Artists confirmed to be involved in the 1Xtra Outreach sessions include Ray BLK, Nadia Rose, Zie Zie, Ms Banks, EO, Not3s, Big Tobz and many more. Some of 1Xtra’s DJs will be returning to their schools and boroughs for talks including DJ Target, Sian Anderson, Ace, Twin B, Yasmin Evans, Dotty, Seani B, Jamz Supernova, Nick Bright, Mim Shaikh, Melody Kane and Jerimiah Asiamah.

1Xtra Live will be broadcast on BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Asian Network from 7pm on the 22 September and can be viewed online at bbc.co.uk/1xtra

Last year BBC Radio 1Xtra celebrated its 15th anniversary and the station continues to play a pivotal role in bringing black and urban music to the mainstream. 1Xtra heavily supports home-grown talent and several of this year’s performing artists have featured on 1Xtra’s Hot For list including Yxng Bane and Kojo Funds in 2018 as well as Jorja Smith, Stefflon Don and MIST in 2017.
