Big Zuu, Nadia Jae, Tash LC and Moses Boyd are the latest DJs to be signed to 1Xtra’s Residency, a show which champions the next generation of fresh new talent (Wednesdays, 11pm-1am).

The Residency starts on Wednesday 10 October and the DJs will rotate over a six-month period. The new line-up is as follows:

First show beginning Wednesday 10 October: Big Zuu
Second show beginning Wednesday 17 October: Tash LC
Third show beginning Wednesday 24 October: Nadia Jae
Fourth show beginning Wednesday 31 October: Moses Boyd

Kicking off the new 1Xtra Residency will be West London Grime MC Big Zuu, who starts on 10 October. He is already a familiar face and personality on the scene, presenting on Radar Radio and Boiler Room alongside making his own music.

Big Zuu says: “It’s an honour to be part of the 1Xtra Residency show. I’ve grown up listening to the station and to now have a show on there is crazy. I’m going to be dropping all those bangers and I can’t wait to get started!”

Tash LC is a specialist DJ in afro-influenced global beats and will make her debut on 1Xtra on 17 October.

Tash LC says: “I’m so gassed to be a part of this year’s Residency! As a long-time BBC listener it feels mad to be a part of something so imperative to music all over the world. I can’t wait to share the sounds I love made by the people I rate the most, from London, Lisbon, Brazil, Angola, Jamaica and beyond. I hope people enjoy the crazy sounds I find just as much as I do, and learn a little bit along the way!”

Next to join the Residency will be DJ and presenter Nadia Jae, who is ready to bring her passion for RnB to 1Xtra from 24 October.

Nadia Jae says: “I can’t begin to explain how happy I am to be joining the 1Xtra squad! And to bring RnB here too? It’s a complete madness. It’s been a childhood dream to be able to present on the BBC and now I am able to do that, I won’t take it for granted! Expect plenty of tun up mixes, RnB riddims, and interviews, smoothed over with my randomness and celeb tea spills. It’s 1Xtra with a slice of Nadia Jae. Mum and Dad, we made it!”

Completing the line-up is Moses Boyd, who will join the Residency on 31 October. A drummer, producer, arranger and DJ, Moses has worked with Mura Masa, Four Tet, Floating Points and Lil Simz.

Moses Boyd says: “I’m very excited to be a 1Xtra resident. I’m eager to bring a bit of what I do and hopefully something different to such a great platform and station. 1Xtra has over the years been an integral part of the culture; I’m proud to now be a part of it.”

Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes, 1Xtra and Asian Network, says: “Our first 1Xtra Residency introduced a range of new DJs into the 1Xtra family, including Snoochie Shy and Kenny Allstar. The 1Xtra Residency is essential for developing fresh talent but also broadening our range of music shows, including regular mixes and sessions. It’s important that we bring real depth of coverage and expose our audience to new genres. 1Xtra has a pivotal role as a cultural catalyst, supporting and documenting the fullest range of cutting-edge British black music.”

1Xtra’s Residency launched as a new addition to the schedule in 2017. The first four residents on 1Xtra were Jeremiah Asiamah, Snoochie Shy, Kenny Allstar and Melody Kane, who featured on rotation over a six month period. From Friday October 12, Kenny Allstar will present the new Friday night show (9pm - 11pm) on 1Xtra.
