Louis Theroux’s first podcast was the most popular on BBC Sounds during the lockdown months of April-June 2020

“There’s quite a bit of personal disclosure on my side. I’d like to think it’s a technique for getting my guests to open up. It’s also possible I’m just an over-sharer.” — Louis Theroux

Now, with the nation under a second lockdown and millions at home once again, Louis is hoping to pull listeners ‘theroux’ the winter months with the return of his Radio 4 podcast, landing on BBC Sounds on Monday 30 November.

Like many, Louis turned his hand to something new at the beginning of the pandemic. In the podcast he has stripped-back discussions with some of the people he has always admired, covering everything from careers to personal foibles and frailties and how they are coping with what is happening in the world.

In series two, Louis will speak to another group of high-profile guests he’s been keen to chat with. In unfiltered conversations, he talks candidly with Michaela Coel, Sia, Rylan Clark-Neal, Ruby Wax, Frankie Boyle, Oliver Stone and FKA Twigs. More guests are to be confirmed.

Louis Theroux says: “So the bad news is many of us are back in lockdown… but the good news is it’s been timed perfectly to coincide with the release of Grounded season two! I’ve been putting the past few months of not being able to travel for work to good use - having 10 more fascinating and intimate conversations with people I’ve always wanted to interview.

As before it’s a mixture of reflection on what’s going on now along with career-related chat and personal revelation. I believe we’ve got a line-up that’s every bit as fun and eclectic and surprising as the first series, with the added bonus of me now being a more seasoned podcast host - though I did speak into the wrong end of the microphone for the Frankie Boyle chat. Apologies for that.

"There’s also quite a bit of personal disclosure on my side. I’d like to think it’s a technique for getting my guests to open up. It’s also possible I’m just an over-sharer.”

Listeners can subscribe to Grounded With Louis Theroux on BBC Sounds and listen to a preview for the second series here. The first series is available in full now and episode one of series two will be on BBC Sounds on Monday 30 November with a new episode available every Monday. The first five episodes will also be broadcast weekly on Radio 4 from Wednesday 9 December and coming soon to BBC iPlayer, a special programme highlighting moments from series 1 of Grounded with Louis Theroux.

Grounded with Louis Theroux is produced by Mindhouse Productions, an independent production company founded by Louis Theroux, Arron Fellows and Nancy Strang. It’s commissioned by BBC Radio 4.
