Music means everything to Hackney rapper Micahh, who wants to bring Afro-Trap to the UK. Recently homeless, Micahh is building his life back up. He has bucketloads of talent - can he use this opportunity to get the big break he’s been dreaming of?

What are you looking to get out of being on the Rap Game?

Really and truly, I want to learn and I want to grow. It’s the experience for me. I would love to win - that would be amazing - but I wanna learn and push my craft. I wanna get my sound out and tell my story.

What is your sound?

My sound is afro-trap. It’s very big in Europe but it’s not here in the UK yet.

What does music mean to you?

Music is everything to me. It’s a universal language, it’s the one way that we can connect with people, share our pain, share our stories, all through a frequency and a vibe.

How do you feel when you’re making your music?

For me, when I am making music, it’s therapeutic to me. There’s nothing that it comes second to. Music is everything. In my music, I tell my story and what I’ve been through. I put my pain in there and I put my experiences in there. So when I’m doing anything to do with music, whether it’s performing or recording, it’s an outlet for me.

In five years’ time, where do you see yourself?

In five years’ time, I’m gonna be in a completely different space. I’m gonna be not just making music, but helping others to make music. I’m gonna be pushing my brand, pushing myself as a creative. I’m gonna take my time to actually make a difference while I’m still here.

What do you find challenging about the music industry?

People aren’t always who they say they are. People don’t really have the best of intentions all the time… that’s life anyway, but in an industry where you’re trying to create art and show people a piece of yourself, trying to give something for genuine love - a lot of people are trying to take from you. Sometimes they only care about you if they can take from you. It’s difficult to be in something that you perceive to be so real… but it’s not.

What does rap mean to you?

Rap is so important. Rap has been a part of my life from the beginning of time. As soon as I can remember, rap has been a part of my life. What it means to me personally… It’s rhythm and poetry. It’s the new voice. Rap is how you can get your point and your message across. Rap is a voice.
