Following an extraordinary year that saw a constantly changing news agenda, figures from the BBC reveal that the morning show has experienced a huge boost in iPlayer numbers with viewers requesting to stream the show live almost 80m times in 2020, up 56% on 2019.

On TV the show remains by far the most watched breakfast programme in the UK with more than 10m regularly tuning in each week. On BBC One, the highest reach of the year was 7.3m, with an average daily reach of 5.7m, almost double the viewers of our nearest rival. The show also saw audience share increase to 42%.

2020 was a busy year for BBC Breakfast with the appointment of new Business Presenter Nina Warhurst, a series of exclusive interviews with Marcus Rashford in his quest to end food poverty, following the emotional journey of Rob Burrow as he fundraised for Motor Neurone’s Disease, covering every step of Captain Tom’s fundraising efforts for NHS Charities and keeping the nation up to date as the Covid 19 pandemic developed.
