Tuesday, August 11, 2020 marked a significant day in American History as presumptive Democratic U.S. Presidential candidate Joe Biden declared U.S. Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the November 3 election; making her the first African American and Indian American woman to be selected for Vice Presidency on a major party ticket. To underscore the momentous announcement, and the power of Black women in politics, BET announces a one-hour news special “BLACK AMERICA VOTES: THE VP CHOICE,” airing Sunday, August 16 at 7 PM ET/PT on BET and BET HER. Anchored by CBS This Morning Saturday co-host Michelle Miller, this BET News special will feature the unique analysis and perspective of notable Black women who will address this moment in political history and how Kalama Harris’s presence on the Democratic ticket may impact the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

“BLACK AMERICA VOTES: THE VP CHOICE” will include interviews with Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Black Voters Matter cofounder Latosha Brown, Black Lives Matter cofounder Alicia Garza, former Chief of Staff of the Democratic Party Reverend Leah Daughtry, Rutgers University Scholar and activist Brittney Cooper and more, to discuss topics like the key role black women will have in the upcoming elections.
