• The company boasts 15 nominations across 12 categories overall, comprising a diverse spread of offerings from its owned and globally represented labels.
Los Angeles – October 7, 2020 - BMG Production Music (BMGPM) – the world's fastest-growing production music company, servicing the film, broadcast, games and advertising industries – has secured six of the top honors at the sixth annual Mark Awards. The premier event recognizing the achievements of the $1 billion dollar production music business was held October 6 in a virtual ceremony hosted by industry veteran John Houlihan.
The first virtual outing of the ceremony, dubbed the 'Markies', was streamed worldwide and saw BMGPM score six awards among its 15 nominations in 12 categories honoring excellence in the production music community and its music made for TV, films, trailers, video games and beyond.
Highlighting a small number of tracks from BMGPM's diverse catalog of 500,000, teams across its owned and represented labels celebrated this year's Mark Award-winning entries, including Human Music - recently releasing its 100th album and racking up another milestone for 2020, it received the nod for Best Vocal Track with 'This Moment', a feel-good acoustic folk tune composed by Sarah Hart, Ken Lewis and Scott Dente. 'Hold Your Horses' from The Home of Happy, hailed Best Country Track, is a collaboration between singer-songwriter Jeff Kightly and award-winning composers Wayne Murray and David Goldsmith that features the vocal talents of Lana McDonagh (nominated for two Mark Awards this year in her own right) and the Hammond organ skills of session ace Mikey Rowe (Noel Gallagher, Ed Sheeran, Sheryl Crow).
The five-time Emmy award-winning production team Crimesonics makes 'exquisitely criminal production music' and is recognized as creating the Best Ambient Track 'Gone' - tragedy manifested into music with woeful vocals and weeping violin created by Mirela Magdalena Nita. Picking up another trailer win this year, the X-Ray Dog catalog and renowned composer Inon Zur take the Best Film Trailer Track accolade, with dramatic, elegant and alluring 'Walk to the Light'. The Sounds of Red Bull catalog is home to the Best Pop Track 'Better Than Maybe', with anthemic riffs and spacious synths crafted by Ty Noam Frankel, Jason Bush and James Delaney McHugh.
Caspar Kedros, SVP Global Creative Content, said: "Recognition at the Mark Awards is one of the best endorsements in our creative industry, and to have so many BMGPM writers, producers and label partners named this year gives us a great deal to celebrate.
"Our commitment to discovering and growing the best production music talent from around the world is clearly demonstrated by the nominations and awards shared today by our global BMGPM family. Congratulations to all involved."
These wins follow the recent announcement of BMGPM global executive promotions, key hires and launch of its in-house creative agency.
The Mark Awards are held annually by the Production Music Association (PMA). A 2017 study by PMA suggested a conservative estimate of the value of the global industry at $1bn, with annual revenue in the US alone estimated at $500 million in addition to tens of thousands of jobs fulfilled by composers, songwriters, producers, and musicians - a large scale sector with massive impact 'hidden in plain sight'.
