BPI welcomes Zain Ali to its Legal team

Record labels’ association the BPI is delighted to welcome the arrival of intellectual property solicitor Zain Ali as its new Legal Adviser.

Zain will provide legal advice across the organisation, but with a particular focus on litigation and content protection.  He will support the BPI’s anti-piracy strategies and help protect the IP of independent and major record labels.

Zain, 27, who officially joined the BPI on 1st May, arrives from leading law firm Bird & Bird, where he completed his training contract in September 2016 and went on to qualify in the IP department as an Associate Solicitor.  During his training contract, Zain dealt with contentious High Court matters and worked on secondment with a national sports body dealing with anti-counterfeiting measures and protecting and enforcing rights.

Zain Ali, BPI Legal Adviser, comments: “I’m delighted to have joined the BPI.  Given my background in IP law and love of music, it’s a perfect match for me to be working for the BPI who are at the forefront of anti-piracy for the music industry.  I’m really looking forward to contributing to the BPI’s invaluable work.”

Zain will report to BPI General Counsel, Kiaron Whitehead, who adds: “Zain is a great addition to the BPI’s already impressive legal team.  His first class degree from university, his first class legal training and his love of IP make him a real asset to BPI.  Zain is a great team player – he’s bright, passionate and personable.  He’s an ideal young lawyer to help us protect the rights of BPI and PPL members.”
