BTS Score Fastest Selling #1 UK Album So Far With "Map of the Soul: 7"
Congratulations to BTS, who have debuted at #1 in the UK Official Albums Chart with Map of the Soul: 7, achieving the fastest-selling album of 2020 so far.
Map of the Soul: 7 is the K-Pop phenomenon’s second UK #1 album, following the release of Map of the Soul: Persona last summer which made them the first Korean act in history to score a #1 on the Official Albums Chart.
BTS is now the Korean act with the most top 40 hits in the UK, surpassing PSY.
The album’s opening week chart sales of 38,000 sees them overtake Eminem’s album, Music to Be Murdered By, which previously had the year’s biggest debut week with just over 36,000 units. Just under 32,000 of BTS’s opening week figure came from pure physical and download sales.
Map of the Soul: 7 is also #1 in Germany, France, Ireland and Netherlands. On the February 24 daily albums chart for Japan’s largest music statistics site Oricon, Map of the Soul: 7 grabbed the top spot with a whopping 227,204 in estimated sales.
On top of this, the album has garnered 173.5 million streams on Spotify in its first week of release, scoring the third biggest opening week for an album on Spotify this year.
BTS's “ON” Kinetic Manifesto Film : Come Prima has now also surpassed 100 million views on YouTube. The video reached 100 million views today [February 28] at about 5:45 pm KST, which is just under one week since its release.
The current record for the fastest Korean group music video to reach 100 million views is held by BTS’s “Boy With Luv,” which reached the milestone in exactly one day, 13 hours, and 38 minutes.
Watch an interview with BTS earlier today on Music Bank - one of the Top 3 music shows in South Korea, which airs every Friday on KBS - plus other videos of the supergroup in the US this week on Jimmy Fallon and James Corden's hugely popular TV shows.
