'Eight' marks IU and SUGA's first No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart

Last week on May 6, IU [aka Lee Ji-eun] released her new single 'eight' feat. & produced by BTSSUGA.

'eight' was received with such excitement that it swept like wild fire across global charts, debuting at No. 1 on both iTunes Top Songs charts and Billboard's latest World Digital Song Sales chart, marking the first No. 1 hit for IU and for SUGA [as a solo artist].

The fact that it starts its time on the World Digital Song Sales chart at No. 1 is an enormous accolade for both K-pop artists and is hugely impressive given that it's only had half a tracking week to accumulate sales due to it being released in the middle of last week.

According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the track debuted at No. 13 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales survey with 7,000 downloads sold, becoming IU's first No. 1 on the former tally and her seventh Top 10. It is also SUGA's first solo No. 1 on World Digital Song Sales, though BTS have had a record 19 No. 1s on the chart as a group.

IU’s new collaboration with Suga additionally dominated the Gaon charts during the week of May 3 - May 9 after topping three separate charts. The chart ranks the best-selling albums and EPs in the pair's native country of South Korea.
