The Confession Scene after Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag makes a heartfelt confession and the Hot Priest, played by Andrew Scott, gets her to kneel, has been voted TV Moment of the Year in heat magazine’s annual Unmissables Awards, decided by a panel of industry experts.

Commenting on picking up the award for TV Moment of the Year, Scott said: “We knew the scene was special. We filmed it in a church in North London which felt risky…It certainly fulfilled a fantasy for certain factions of the community, none of which I’m familiar with!”

The second series of the iconic comedy instantly sent the show into the stratosphere of all-time classics, securing it the Unmissables TV Comedy of the Year accolade. The third award, making 2019 undoubtedly Fleabag’s year, goes to the Hot Priest, actor Andrew Scott, whose arrival as Fleabag’s charismatic love interest thrilled viewers and deservedly wins him the Actor of the Year gong.

On winning Unmissable Actor of the Year, Scott commented: “Thank you so much, this is incredible. We had such a good time doing Fleabag and we’re so pleased everyone has fallen in love with it the way we have.”

The Unmissables Awards were curated by heat’s expert entertainment team to reward the finest achievements of the year in all areas of film, TV and entertainment.

Entertainment Director, Boyd Hilton commented: “Each year it gets harder to decide who and what should win our “Unmissables Awards” from our weekly entertainment section of the magazine. There are more extraordinary TV shows, films, albums and podcasts than ever before.” He added, “What a year it’s been for Fleabag and Phoebe-Waller Bridge, picking up THREE gongs. Richly deserved!”

For its six glorious episodes, Ricky Gervais’ hilarious and deeply moving comedy After Life, about a man dealing with grief and the brilliant characters surrounding him, wins TV Binge of the Year. On his award Ricky says: “This will take pride of place on my awards shelf – well, it’s certainly in front of the Comedy Awards at least.”

Emma Willis picks up TV Presenter of the Year. For hosting the amazing reality game The Circle, getting down and dirty with midwives in Delivering Babies on the W Channel, and not forgetting The Voice UK, heat said: “She’s simply the best.”

The cunning catfishing show The Circle trounced Love Island to win Reality Show of the Year and The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan picks up the Entertainment Show of the Year gong. Host Mo said: “This is the first official award I’ve won since I got one for doing ten laps in the pool at school. Mum, this is going in my house. And to all the teachers who said I wouldn’t make it – you were right at first, but you’re wrong now!”

Among the contenders for TV Drama of the Year were Russell T Davies’s superb Years And Years, the amazing Sarah Phelps’ Dublin Murders, a vintage series of Peaky Blinders and the best Stranger Things yet. But, in the toughest category to judge, the accolade went to the gripping Succession, Sky Atlantic’s addictive saga of a super-wealthy and powerful family of media moguls. Showrunner Jesse Armstrong says, “We’re very happy to have the heat of Heat behind us. There is no hotter heat.”

Actress Lesley Manville beat off Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, to take the Actress of the Year title, for two magnificent and contrasting roles in wondrous comedy Mum and the intense war drama World on Fire. Lesley says: “Thank you so much for giving me this award for two parts I really loved playing. They were two wonderful characters, and it’s wonderful to receive this honour.”

The grand musical biopic Rocketman was voted Film of the Year for being as beautifully complicated, colourful and uncompromising as the man himself, with a perfect central performance from Taron Egerton and ingenious use of Elton’s classic songs to tell his life story. Taron says: “We are absolutely thrilled. It means a great deal!” With Director Dexter Fletcher adding, “We are chuffed. It’s our first Film of the Year award and I get to keep it because I’m the Director!”

In the middle of an epic farewell live tour, the biopic film of his life being released, Sir Elton John finally unleashed his memoirs in heat’s Unmissable Book of the Year, ME – the most brutally honest, endlessly entertaining, and funny pop star autobiography ever.

Elsewhere in heat’s end of year roll of honour, Mercury Prize winner, Top Boy star and rapper Dave, gets the Unmissables Album of the Year nod for his revelatory album Psychodrama, which the experts at heat described as a ‘masterpiece’. For the second year running Dear Joan and Jericha triumphs, winning Podcast of the Year for the rudest, funniest podcast in history. Roisin Conaty wins Comedian of the Year for GameFace and the heat readers picked Eastenders as Soap of the Year.
